Thank you all for your thoughts. I am going to go ahead and schedule the surgery. i also have started running a low grade temp which is very unusual and have pain in my groin area. Maybe I have just been in denial. Question...when you have a partial...does the rest of the kidney just resume normal function but just can't filter as much? Does that dump more toxins into you because the whole kidney isn't there? I know these are questions for my doctor and I will ask him when I go in next. Just so many questions popping in my head now that it has gotten "real". Prayers for all of you who are struggling with much more complicated issues.
Lofty,
Many of your technical questions are above my paygrade. They were not doing partials when I was initiated 13 years ago. May your journey be uneventful. I would say painfree as well, but I would be laughed off this board.

I had a partial and my kindey function is as good as before. Truly no difference and that's with about 20 - 25 percent of my left kidney missing. The other simply took over it. So while the previous function was about 55 left and 45 right, it simply flip-flopped and now the right is at 55 and the left at 45. As for BUN, creatinine, and its ratio, that fluctuates a little but then it did prior to surgery as well and is always within normal range. Of coruse we're all different and it depends on where it is and how much kidney you lose but I wouldn't worry. The other kidney will simpy amp up its performance to compensate.

May your treatment be as boring as possible
