New here;husband has nasalpharyngeal cancer ;can someone relate?

Hello All,

My husband has recurrent nasalpharyngeal cancer after being recovered for four years. He is undergoing chemo and radiation. I believe he needs support from someone in

his age group( he is 44). I want to offer him suggestion of viewing this site. Although Im sure any cancer patient can relate to him, he seems to be very frustrated that

he is the only patient with his type of rarer cancer and situation of second battle. Please let me know who we can contact here for emotional support and guidance.thanks .Fell better and speedy recovery to all!!

I had stage 3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Finished concurrent radiation and chemo (cisplatin 2 sessions) 3 years ago, and adjuvant chemo (carboplatin and 5FU), 2.5 years ago. I was 46 at the time of diagnosis.

So far no reoccurrences, but there are a few NPC survivors active on this forum, who had been treated at least twice, who might chime in.

    NPC

    Felicia,

We are going through round one rather than round two of NPC. I'm sorry that your husband had a recurrance...devastating is the word that comes to mind. Hopefully someone here will be able to relate and can connect with your husband.

In any case we are here for you and your husband both. This board is supportive, encouraging, and empathic. It is a valuable place to express what you are feeling and get feedback both informative and caring. I am a caregiver also, so if you want to message me, please feel free to do so.

I know there are some trials open to those who have recurrent NPC. Maybe you want to look into them? I thought i saw something about immunotherapy trials with MK-3475 and also Keytruda out there that had to do with NPC. I will see if I can find where i saw them and message you.

Prayers for you and your husband.

Welcome to the H&N Group Felicia

Welcome to the group and also sorry you need to be here. Truly sorry your husband's came back a second time. I had SSC of the larynx so it is different but others have had recurrent NPC and several have had other recure as well. If you don't mind where did he first get treated, local or by a national ranked hospital/ cancer center. What was his fires treatment, surgery, chemo, radiation, or all or some. It just might give them a better understanding.

Let him know he is not alone as others have had it come back. It is not as common but many have NPC more than you would think. Also was he HPV+ as it does resopnd a little better than not having it.  Sorry I am in a different age group, but just before my surgery I was T4; N2; M0 which would be stage 4 and my odds were not very good as I have bad lungs and only five thought I would make it through surgery. When it was over I was Down to Stage 3 T3;N0;M0 and now I breath through my neck and they removed my voice box, and my cancer is gone and i'm 24 months NED.

Both you and your husband are no longer alone in this fight. Were open 24/7
