Elevated ALT/ AST Causes?
Hello!
Hope everybody is doing well today.
I have a question with my current condition. I am currently on my third to the last Chemo but since I have an the doctor elevation with my ALT and AST I have to stop my treatment. I am really worried since tomorrow I will have an UTZ and suspected that this is due to Taxol. Everything went well not until ALT and AST changed from ALT = 75-105 // AST= 30- 60.
My everyday complain is that the sole of my foot feels like there is a thickening feeling. And I have these tingling sensation on both upper and lower extremities. I wonder if there are some other patients out there have the same experience that I am experiencing right now and I am worried if my Big C has metastasized.
Hoping and praying that everything is alright.

Taxol Neuropathy
Hi, Luanne!
I suspect your cancer has not metastzsized. I think you body is just having a hard time with Taxol. It is a powerful drug. The blood tests are watching for ill-effects on all the body systems; the ALT and AST are monitoring liver function. The fact that the numbers are out-of-wack doesn't necessarily mean there is cancer in the liver. More likely, it just means the liver is having a hard time coping with the Taxol and needs a break.
Your everyday complaint sounds like Taxol-induced peripheral neuropathy, a very common problem for many of us who have had Taxol. Let your doctor and nurses know about what your are experiencing, and get suggestions for alternative approaches to dealing with these symptoms. There are several vitamins and other supplements that are said to protect the nervous system and prevent neuropathy from becoming permanent. I had accupuncture, which helped a little.
I am hoping and praying everything is alright for you, too. I am pretty sure you are just experiencing the roller-coaster ride of cancer treatment.

Hello Wholfmeister,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience with me. I am grateful for the encouragement and for the advise on what I need to ask my Healthcare providers. I also wanted to update you that I had my Ultrasound today and I have to wait until tomorrow for the results. I hope they'll call me tomorrow for an appointment so that I can talk to my Oncologist.
Again Thank you so much for the prayers and for the advise.
