How much help at home during radiation?

Hello all again,

Those of you who went through radiation, what was it like at home?  Will my mom be as fatigued as she was during chemo?

Thx,

Kate

Fatigue is a definent part of

Fatigue is a definent part of it.  For me it wasn't to bad.  I was teaching full time and did not have to miss any days, but i was very glad when weekends rolled around.  I had some problems with diarhea, but i was able to control it with Immodium.  Everyone is different and I know some had more problems with the fatigue.  Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

    My appetite was an issue

So my friends kept us stocked up on easy to make and eat things.  Lots of soup.  I did have fatigue.  I scheduled my treatments for later in the day so I could go home, drink some ginger ale and take it easy.  I bloated up for a little while after my treatments and burping really eased that for me.  I was mortified....  Other than I tolerated it pretty well.

    not too bad

hi kate -- i didn't have chemo so i'm not sure how that would factor in. but i did have 25 rounds of external beam pelvic rads and then two brachys immediately afterwards. i didn't start to experience any kind of fatigue that really affected how i was functioning until nearly the end of the external. i drove myself to my treatments until the very last few. i didn't need help with much  in the daily routine of things (my daughter lives with me so she was around to help if i needed it). i did have a fair amount of diarrhea and nausea, and if anything the meds i took for that were responsible for any fatigue i felt exept right up to the end. the brachys knocked me out though. i was pretty much flat out for 3 days after each of those. i hope your mom fairs very well. --caedmon
