Radiation takes how long?

Hello all you amazing women,

 

Im so thankful you are here.  My mom just finished 6 rounds of carbo/taxol and needs radiation.  It looks like most of the women on this board get around 25 treatments of external beam pelvic radiation. How long between each of these treatments?  Is it one per day, one per week?

She would like to plan a little vacation to celebrate the completion of all this treatment.

    Mine were one a day with

    Mine were one a day with weekends off and I believe that is the usual.  Hugs and prayers for your mom and you.  Lou Ann

    daily

    mine were daily, with weekends off. the brachys were separated by a few days. i hope your mom gets that vacation before she starts. great idea.

    Daily except for weekends.

    Yay she finished chemo!  You should ask the docs for the break - most of us got one.  And celebrate her thriving!  She is lucky to have you.  Keeping you all in my prayers.  Anne

    Daily in the mornings with chemo in the afternoons...

    with weekends off, from July to October, plus two or three brachy radiation (can't remember if 2 or 3), then surgery, then follow-up chemo in December - all was 6 years ago.

    like the other ladies, one a day.  It goes pretty fast, they may have a day of "planning" if it is IMRT.  If she has internal radiation it was once a week for me for 3 weeks. (so 3 in total on internal radiation).  

    Radiation can do a number on your intestines, which scared the living crap out of me, but I took probiotics and I think it helped minimize those side effects.  A dietician who works with cancer patients had showed me a horrifying study of women treated with radiation w and w/o probiotics proved it is totally effective!  I was already taking them - and still do.  

    Kate - I agree she (and you) should celebrate the completion of a treatment cycle. If she didn't have a bell to ring at the chemo treatment location - it is kind of a tradition - so give her a bell and tell her to RING IT until she feels good!

    And I appreciate all the support and loving responses you post to the women and sometimes men on this Board and the other related Boards here. I just want to say thank you to my fellow Hoosier. I hope to meet you someday when I once again travel to Indy. You are always here, lending a gentle hand to a woman or loved one of a woman facing this journey.  I, for one, am grateful for your warmth, knowledge and kindness.

    Radiation

    My mom is stage three, she just started radiation about 2 weeks ago. It is everyday and weekends off, I wish you and your mom all the luck in the world. You will both be in my prayers tonight.
