What's the skinny on night sweats?

Does anyone have any solid knowledge on night sweats? 

I had surgery over a month ago, but woke up with wet nightgown ... Really uncomfortably wet. Had to change out of it kind of wet.  Lost ovaries over 2 years ago, and never had such a sweat. Especially it's cooler weather now! 

I'm trying hard not to freak out about this ... Not on chemo either.  I know that and the steroids prior to often cause sweating. For me it's every hour on the hour for the first several days. Then tapers off.  But this is totally different. No meds on board, no chemo, ovaries out too long ago for it to be this severe.   In my mind it means .... More cancer.  

I just got the all clear after surgery .. Is it possible it's back so soon?

    Dear Friend,

    Over two years ago when I found out that I had cancer for a few weeks I woke up totally soaked in the middle of the night . I had fever as well. Some say it's from the cancer, but I think it was from the stress and anxiety.

    I've got a year clear from liver resection,

    I still get night sweats occasionally. Stress, being wound up, sometimes it just happens. I wouldn't read anything into it. Go with the all clear and relax, maybe turn the fan on.     Dave

    'Yeah, right!!'

    I know how it goes, anything that is different with our bodies is automatically Cancer. The other day, I had a pain in my big toe. Big toe, for goodness sakes! I racked my brain to figure out what kind of Cancer I could have in my big toe. 

    Definitely go get yourself checked out with the Doctor. No matter what we all can say here, you'll not be happy until you hear that all is well, from a professional. 

    I would say it is all connected to your hormones, and I presume your surgery was for the Breast Cancer; so it is probably all tied in with that. 

    When I felt a ball feeling in my rectum several weeks after my bowel resection, I asked if the Cancer could be back, and was told no.  

    So, I say stay calm and think of England, then hie yourself off to the Doctor and see what he has to say. 

    Remember, stress can do awful things to the body, so you want to avoid it as much as you possibly can. 

    Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Thanks Dave .. I keep fan on usually and my window open .. my room cool and not too many blankets, and often one leg out!  LOL .. I am liking the stress/anxiety theory.  I see oncologist soon .. will definitely be chatting that up.

    I guess I am jumping to conclusions again.  It is aweful what this damn disease does to our minds.  Seems I just get to a good place and BAM!, it comes back!  I guess I am just really fearful now.  I did not have breast cancer .. nor any breast surgery.  I had colon cancer recurrence recently, that was what my surgery was for .. AGAIN! Four surgeries in just under four years, all colon cancer .. no wonder I am a wreck! LOL

    I guess I just never thought of stress as a possible issue as I was in a sound sleep and did not have any "out of the ordinary" stress that day or week for that matter.  IDK .. guess we will just see what the doctors have to say about it all.

    I had night sweats when I was sick before my dx,

    and I assume they were from cancer, but I also still get them once in a while now, when I'm pretty sure there's nothing going on in the cancer realm (I too had my overies removed, so maybe that plays a role).

    It totally freaks me out when it happens, but I try not to let it worry me.  I figure if anything more serious starts to develop, my blood test will  pick it up, or I will start to feel other symptoms.

    Cancer is so awesome, huh?  The gift that keeps on giving forever.

         They hit me out of the blue . I can be in the shopping centre and I will suddenly have to sit down and then comes the meltdown. The sweat literally runs off me. I am nearly seventeen years past stage 3 c colon cancer. I have been dxed with several auto-immune diseases that were probably caused by cancer or chemo.Most of them have been labled of unknown type and cause. That includes moderate to severe motor sensory peripheral neuropathy in both feet legs and left hand  and nephrotic syndrome of my kidneys. Untreated I lose up to seven grams of protein a day thru my kidneys. This past year they checked my testosterone levels. They should be between 8 and 18 in the morning I came in at 5.2. I have been put on three monthly shots of testosterone. I was due for another a couple of weeks back but I cannot get another script until I see an endochronologist. There is a twelve month waiting list for that where I live. The sweats have ramped up again worse than before.I feel for you as it is an unpleasant experience and can in no way be considered normal. I hope thaey find a cause soon and can treat it ,Hugs Ron.

    Wow Ron! Ou seem to have really been through an ordeal! but 17 years is no sneeze!! That is awesome! 

    It seems like the testosterone is the culprit for your case. 

    Likely hormonal here as well. Maybe stress/anxiety.

    I had them prior to dx also,

    I had them prior to dx also, as well as with recurrence, I think that is leading to the stress and anxiety now! Lol

    Your right ... It does keep on giving!
