Chicago area or University of Michigan gyn/onc recommendations?

I am new to this forum and currently at the point of evaluating which gyn/onc to see as a next step for possible ovarian cancer.  I live in southwest Michigan and considering doctors in Chicago (Northwestern, U of Chicago) or University of Michigan (Ann Arbor).  If anyone has positive (or negative) experiences with doctors at any of these locations, could you please provide feedback?  Ideally, I don't want to visit more than two doctors / practices for opinions.  Thank you!

My husband is treated at U of

My husband is treated at U of C for a rare nasal cancer. Went there after getting some treatment at another teaching hopst.in the area. I feel like they gave us hope which is very important to cancer pts. Why not get opinions at u of c and Northwestern. I know a  few people who go there for diferent cancers and are happy with there care.  I was looking for some info on aromatherpy and couldnt find it on the head and neck site which is what brought me here. Good luck.

    MY RECOMMENDATION

I'm sorry to hear that you have to seek out this type of care.  But I would recommend a gynecologic oncologist, specifically Dr. Vinay Malviya.  He is in Southfield and Novi, and works out of the St. John Health System.  He is thorough, caring, and doesn't leave anything to chance.   I've been seeing him since 1999 and don't think I would ever go elsewhere for anything related to gynecologic problems.

I wish you well in your endeavor, and sending prayers for good results.  Keep us posted.

U of C Gyne Oncologist for you!

    Tmilli77,

    Hello!

You may have found someone by now, so please disregard as I joined today and just read your entry.

If you are still looking for a Gyne Oncologist in the Chicago, I have had a wonderful experience to share.

I was referred to Dr. Nita Lee at U of C and she is a straight forward, patient centered MD, and a tremendous surgeon. She didn't like what my left ovary looked like during my hyterectomy (no problem allegedly on pelvic ultrasound done by MY regular Gyne). Sure enough, my left ovary was carrying a small, encapsulated tumor. Until then, it was thought that I ONLY had a small uterine tumor. My point is: I was impressed with her qualifications, and her professionalism! And very patient with all her explanations.

Also, she was able to do the Minimalply Invasive Vaginal Hysterectomy and the DaVince Arm and I was home the next day. I am currently at 6 weeks post-op and have already seen her for  2week and then 4 week post-op visit. My next visit will be at a 3 month interval. She was very honest with me about the fact the surgery could have been done differently, but I was so glad with the outcome and healing process!

i would recommend Dr. Nita Lee to any family members as well as to my friends or to anyone who is searching for a Gyne Oncologist in the Chicago area. Her Office # 773/792-6123 at the U of C campus.

Good luck and keep us posted on you!!!

    Hugs,

    Kate
