Surviving breast cancer
I haven't been on the CSN board for quite a while. I just wanted to share that I am now 5 years out from surgery and next February I will be 5 years out from treatment. I had a double mastectomy with no reconstruction. I had 6 rounds of TC chemo, 28 days of radiation and Neulasta shot 1 day after chemo which did make me tired enough to sleep for several hours the following day. Fortunately I had no adverse reactions to anything. I used plastic ware for eating and Biotene toothpaste & mouthwash. My oncologist has me taking Anastrazole (generic for Arimidex) for 10 years. My xrays have been clear and I am still dancing with NED :-) On this board there is so much information and an opportunity to ask and post anything you are concerned with regarding your breast cancer. Many read posts for awhile before actually posting anything themselves. Do what you feel comfortable with. {{hugs}}

Anastrozole
I read your bio where you indicated that your oncologist is keeping you on anastrozole for 10 years. I've been on for 5 and my onco wants me to come off of it. I can't locate any studies that show 10 years is better than 5 for this particular drug. Can you tell me your onco's reason to keep you on for 10 years? Thanks and congrats on your continuing NED!

Here is my experience
I have been on Arimidex since 2003. At 5 and 10 years my onc asked if I wanted to continue as there is no available completed research on this lenghth of time. I said yes cause it lightens the anvil hanging over my head a bit. He said fine.
Then this May I had a craniotomy for a level 2 (in between benign and malignant, but neither) brain tumor. When I saw the onc last week he called me the miracle patient, I asked if it was possible that Arimidex kept the tumor from being malignant brain mets. He said no one knows, but it's an interesting concept.
Do what is comfortable for you. My docs say no one knows their bodies better than cancer survivors and I am proof they listen.
