FLA or Focal Laser Ablation with mpMRI
Hello, I am brand new to the site, board, and prostrate cancer - with all it's complexities. I was unable to successfully SEARCH for keyword FLA or focal laser ablation, thus posting this thread. Hoping to hear from anyone who has undergone FLA, guided by mpMRI, as part of their watchfull waiting. . ? Either as part of a clinical study or out of pocket expense. Thank you in advance, Scott

Still experimental
This method is still quite experimental, with ongoing phase I and II studies. I could be wrong, but I doubt that you will find a significant number of people on this forum who have actually undergone this therapy. However, you will find a few relevant papers by searching PubMed. In my opinion (!), those are actually more meaningful than personal responses reported on prostate cancer forums such as this one.
Here is a link to one of them (a review): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4071166/
A search on clinicaltrials.gov site will also yield several hits.

us too prostate cancer forum
There is a very inclusive discussion about Focal Laser Ablation at the site.
Addtionally, as a lay person, who has studied this, I may be able to give comments to questions that you have.

THANK YOU for the links. They
THANK YOU for the links. They are added information. Interested to learn that the Univ of Chicago team has ended thier 2 clinical trials and are now doing FLA on a cost basis. Overall, it seems to me that FLA is "working" in the short term; but the curability rates cannot be truly known for another decade.

Scott,
There may be current clinical trials that may be available. Try googling, "clinical trials prostate cancer focal laser ablation" You may come across one with a reduced fee. i believe that the American Cancer Society can also help to locate these "clinical trials.
I wonder what is going on with you. Are you following an active surveilllance protocol...when were you diagnosed, If you wish please feel free to share the diagnostic tests that you have had, and results....we may be able to provide input.
.................
The problem with new technologies, is that long term data is not available, so we can only extrapolate, based on the research that we must do.
My opinion is that technology for effective FLA is still emerging, so have we reached prime time...to be honest, I'm not sure.
Best,
H.
