Still kind of tired
Hi guys,
i had my partial nephrectomy surgery June 8 and I still am feeling tired a lot. I've been anemic years ago and so it kind of feels like that. I also am still have some pain when taking deep breaths. My acupuncturits thinks it my diaphram. Im feeling a bit discouraged because I was hoping to feel a lot better at this point. My grandsons our coming from out of state to spend some summer time with nana and papa next week so Im desperately want to have energy.I have an appointment in with my GP in August and I'm sure she'll hook me up with some energy supplements (she practices alternative medicine as well as western med). But in the meantime ... any fancy cocktails of energy builders.

Have you been checked for
Have you been checked for anemia again recently? Have your doctor also test your iron levels and if low, take Slo Fe iron pills (only if advised by your doc.) But really, it hasn't even been a month yet since your surgery so I don't think it's abnormal to still feel fatigued and "run down."

Sorry you are so fatigued. I would also recommend getting an anemia test. I had to ask for it.In the meantime, get started on SLOW FE over the counter and soon you'll feel better I bet.
Let us know how you are doing k?
Gentle Hugs, Jan

My partial neph was on June
My partial neph was on June 16th and I am still very fatigued, but do have more energy this past week. I also get lightheaded at times. I had blood work done a week ago and my Red Blood Count and Hemoglobin were coming back up since surgery, but still slightly below normal. Being 43, in good health otherwise, fit, well conditioned having done strength and cardio training for years, healthy eating...I figured before surgery I would be close to normal by now - but not even close yet. The surgery kicked my butt. Still getting pain in the kidney area that had the surgery too, but told all of this is normal and part of recovery. Last night I was getting woken up by kidney pain until I took a Tylenol which helped. It almost feels more like a back strain in that area.

Thank you! It's so comforting to hear your words of wisdom. I'll look into getting some blood work.
HH431 It's good to hear that you experiencing the same. It tells me we're on the same road in our recovery. I suppose it's harder on the body than we realized.
Thank you!!

Yes indeed get those checks done but i sounds to me like fatigue. You just have bloody great holes dug in your body and your innards have been stirred with an ice cream spoonand the rest put through a blender. Its gonna last at east a montht to start healing, Dont worry ,healing will happen.

Are you also gettingNana,
Are you also getting pain in the kidney area? I had none the first 3-4 days after surgery and it sort of comes and goes in intensity. I guess it's just things healing up inside. Sometimes it just feels like a back strain.

By the way, if you are looking to add iron, Cream of Wheat (Gluten Free) has about 70% of the RDA amount in one serving (1/4 cup). I started adding a tablespoon of it to my oatmeal in the morning. I also eat Wheat Chex cereal that has about 80% of the RDA of iron. I don't eat much meat or a ton of protein sources which contains a lot of iron, so I am trying to consume a little more through other sources. My doctor said he didn't think I needed an iron supplment so I figured I would do it this way.

Fatigue
Have you checked your Thyroid, but the time my cancer had taken hold of my kidney my thyroid had taken a beating from the interruption of blood flow. After my surgeries and recovery I was still exhausted turns out the cancer had affected my thyroid and I had to go on medication for that, it is worth checking out anyway.

I think 4 weeks is very normal to still be feeling fatigued. Your body has gone through a LOT. But just to be cautious, get checked for anemia, and thyroid.
Enjoy your time with your grandkids!
Hugs
