If CT showed nothing shld my 18 yr old son still get cystoscopy?

18 yr old son had peed brownish urine 3x in a week and a half so went to urologist - by the time we got appt his urine color was normal (and still is to date) had abdominal and pelvic CT with and w/o contrst - all negative . Now dr wants a cystoscopy done. Should we still get cysto even tho things hv been fine since dec 12, 2014? Was anyone diagnosed even tho CT was normal but cysto came up positive?(see my bio page)

    cystoscopy question

I am 54 years old, a male in generally good physical condition. Late last fall I started noticing blood in my urine after a hard workout at my gym, it alarmed me as this never happened before. Over a couple of months it happened several more times but only after a strenuous workout. Never the less I located a good urologist and went for a checkup. A urine sample showed some trace of leukocytes and blood. I was sent for a CT scan that showed two shadows in my bladder. A cystoscopy following showed at least nine polyps. Shortly after that I scheduled a transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT). The pathology showed stage 1 carcinoma with no intrusion into the muscle tissue, however it’s a high grade carcinoma. I've started Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) treatments and my prognosis is good. Only time will tell now.

My point is, and I'm not a doctor, is that at any age or physical condition one can develop cancer. The earlier diagnosis the better the chances are of survival...and survival with less than life changing results may be possible. The cystoscopy is uncomfortable and somewhat humiliating but knowing one way or the other - now - outweighs the inconvenience.

    Best to check I think

sorry, just learned about this site recently and saw your post.

i had similar situation, brown urine after excercising- only once- and doctor ran urine, blood and ultrasound and everything showed up negative, but he insisted on cystoscopy and they found an early stage bladder cancer tumor-

better to find out than to worry about it or worse allow something to advance-

hope this is helpful, might have saved my life-
