Wish me luck - my procedure is tomorrow
Good evening. The day of reckoning is almost here. Wish me luck - I don't know exactly what will happen - maybe a partial, maybe total, maybe open - it really is a leap of faith to get from where I am now to moving forward and healthy. Thanks again for all of the posts - they have made a huge difference. It may be a few days before I sign back on. Until then...

Oh the unknown..hard to take
Oh the unknown..hard to take sometimes. But know this, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
Hopefully you'll have a laproscopic, or robatic surgery so you can heal up. I used a lumbar wrap to support those injured muscles, nerves etc. I would also place dry ice block over the learger incision (I had a radical nephrectromy) and therefore I needed less and less pain meds.
Let us know how you are doing, when you feel up to it.
Saying a special prayer for you tonight and for your surgeon.
Gentle hugs, Jan

Into the unknown
My partial was a big question. The growth itself was small. However the location was by all the in and out plumbing. If he got all out the first attempt then fine I would have half my kidney. If he failed then I would have zero kidney. I came to in recovery listening to the one nurse all impressed with how the surgen saved that guys life. Which guy?? That guy. Yeah she used my name. I wound up with 80 percent. I figured he watched a lot of star trek.
Good Luck!! I will be thinking of you tomorrow. All my best.

Talmid,
May your surgery be uneventful, boring and successful. I would sat painless, but I would lose my credability.

Good luck today. We will be thinking of you.
Enjoy the nap
I'm told by my family that, while I was 'out', I swore I had been visited by a couple of famous English actresses.
May you have an equally pleasurable experience.

I remember the pre-op room,
I remember the pre-op room, looked out the window out at the hospital where I was born in NYC, walking to the OP room, seemed like the deck of a spaceship, talking to the anestheoligist, who by sheer coincidence was the cousin of one of my coworkers, waking up and hearing from my wife that my operation was a success. I still laugh about how scared I was and tough me being in tears the week before the operation. We have all been there. I feel like a better and stronger person for having going through the whole thing. One more thing I can check off as a life experience. . . .

I made it!!
I made it - thanks for your warm thoughts and prayers. The surgeons "only" had to perform a partial and were able to take out the tumor laparoscopically. I was sent home from the hospital today without a drain but still with staples. I feel like I got hit by a truck - I find it's hard to stay awake or even concentrate (it's taken me 10 minutes to write this). I don't remember anything prior to the recovery room.
Now we wait for the pathology report and concetrate on getting stronger.

So glad you're home and that they were able to do a partial. And yes, just focus on regaining your strength!

Glad to hear it went well.
I had my partial on June 16th and just posted in my thread how physically exhausted I am still 12 days after surgery. Very draining....rest up.

The worst thing is the anticipation and ignorance. Take it easy. But push yourself as much as you can.

Talmid,
Not really, but those of us who have been thru it have earned the right to put it and keep it in their rear view mirror.

Every day you will feel a bit better - trust us.
Just make you you rest, walk as much as you can, and drink lots of water. Pamper yourelf!
I felt much better after they took the staples out. To me that was the "turning point". I could almost sleep on that side that night - and that made me feel more "normal".
Gentle hugs to you!

Glad its over and your are home. Do not underestimate the effects of not only having abdominal surgery, but the anesthetics!! They are powerful and it takes awhile to get them out of your system. I used a lumbar wrap to hold those sore muscles and would place dry ice inside the wrap over the incisions to reduce the swelling. That way I used less pain meds.
And JoJo is right. Do not rush your recovery, even if you start to feel okay. Your insides are healing and you don't want hernias or internal stitches to pop.
Be pampered and rest your mind so your body heals up.
Keep us informed as to how you are doing ok hon?
Warmly, Jan
