Pathology review - can it change?

Hi sorry for being MIA. After I finally got my good report I gave myself a break from all things RCC related to focus strictly on my kids. I hope everyone is doing well. I got a call today from Dr. Molina's office that she would like a copy of my pathology slides so they can run their own report. Has anyone had their pathology report reviewed? If so, did it change? I'm pRCC Stage 1tb - Type 1, Grade 1/2 {Grade doesn't mean much with pRCC, but Type does}. I'm super nervous that for some reason I'll go from Type 1 to 2 which is basically going from great to agressive. Anyone care to share some insight? As always, thank you!

    I can't really answer your question, but it does sound like Dr. Molinar is one thorough doctor! I am so glad you are in her care.

    I had my pathology slides

    I had my pathology slides reviewed after the first said carcinoma for a polyp removed during colonoscopy. Thank god my GE doc didn't think it looked that way to her and insisted on them redoing the pathology. Sure enough, it was benign. So yes, it's not necessarily a bad thing. And yes, she does soudn thorough and prefers to go with her own team. That's good.

    Its impossible not to worry. Honestly, I try to push myself into a good headspace but always manage to think the worst. I blamed that on my original medical team and the hell I was put thorugh. Dr. Molina is heaven sent.  My mental state - yikes! I wish there was a way to control this. I did a ton of research on my liver lesions and even though they remain indeterminate liver lesions lots of ppl have them so that helps. I'm just hoping upon hope I stay Type 1. Fingers crossed!

    Pathology opinions

    I had my pathology reviewed by 2 more institutions after the original one because they were unable to determine the histology.  It is possible for different institutions to reach different conclusions.  It wouldn't hurt to get another opinon.  The histology is important in determining the best treatment.

    Pathology Review

    Every time I went to a different institution they've asked for copies of the slides and looked at them themselves. When I moved from a university medical center to a cancer hospital, they had their pathologists review my slides and do another pathology report. Nothing changed.

    I think with things that are controversial, or state-of-the-art, or even when going from a place that doesn't specialize to one that does, there might be changes, but I think typical stuff is not going to change when you go from place unless there was a screw up, that is.

    My problem is I have pRCC and apparently its tought to make the distinction btwn Type 1 and 2. 2 is way more aggressive, but my first report read Type 1. The slides were just give to my RCC oncologist this week so I'll have the new report by my appt on the 23rd. Hoping for the best. Even it it changes to type 2 I just want these liver lesions to remain to be nothing. One step at a time I suppose.

    It is good to inquire with those on here who may have the answers or experiences to help you.

    Glad to know YOUR doc is so thorough. Who knew other new docs would want their own examimations. Good for them!

    Exactly Jan!

    My new plan is to always have a plan on the days of appointments to make it a positive experience no matter what the results. Tonight its toy shopping for my boy, MRI, dinner outside on this gorgeous Summer day and a stroll through this amazing city I get to call home. No dwelling. Must stay postitive for the sake of these two gorgeous children I've been blessed and worked my tush off in order to stay home with them. Working from home while ill with these two babies is challenging, but worth it! Thanks for the encouragement.

    Pathologists are like any other specialists in the medical field.  Think of it that way.  They often consult with eachother and are known to send slides to experts in their field.  I would believe an expert pathologist.  When a pathologist has some doubt, they issue a preliminary report and a final report would be pending.

    Oncogists are separate and different from pathologists.
