Thyroid Issues

in Kidney Cancer #1

I have been on Votrient 800mg for the past three months and recently my bloodwork has come back showing that my thyroid is not performing the way it should.  My oncologist has put me on a thyroid medicine.  Has anyone else had this problem and if so did it go away after you were taken off Votrient?  Thanks.

    I don't need no stinking thyroid!!

    It took so long for me to be diagnosed with cancer I had lost my thyroid.  So there I was, stage four and no functioning thyroid.  Here is how it worked out for me.  In about six months they stopped playing with my dosage of synthroid and I have had that dosage ever since. 

    All the various treatments effect the numbers in my bloodwork.  Then there is the steady eddie from the thyroid.  Not everybody caught on.  Finally my oncology team understood what the endocrinologist had been trying to tell them.  As long as I get an oral replacement the test results mean nothing during treatment for cancer. 

    Since I have lost the total function of the thyroid I will be on a replacement dose forever.  And It is not so bad.  I take a million pills in the morning anyway.  As for you.  I do not know if it will come back for you or not.  That is why oncologists have endocrinologists I suspect.  Votrient was good to me for two years or so.  I wish you the very best.

    Thanks for the information. I appreciate it.  We are trying to figure out which dosage will work for me.  I hope Votrient works well for me I have my 1st CT scan on Monday since being on Votrient.  Can't wait to get that over with.  Again, thanks for your story and information.

    Mine is shot also. Synthroid is slow to do it's thing but I've adjusted pretty well. I can't tell what is a side effect of the votrient, or thyroid. I can still get pretty tired.

    6 weeks

    6 weeks is the time frame for checking and adjusting thyroxin doses. That's what I mean by "it is slow." to stabilize. But once it is adjusted, it works very well.

    I'm not really au fait with the state of my thyroid

    But I'm taking L-Thyroxine. I feel fine and my Doc's happy. So SOMETHING'S Going right!
