Quick Update from Me...life and death and breast cancer

Just a quick update.... Things have been crazy here lately.

After a 5 year battle with cancer, my mother-in-law Jean (my husband's step-mom) passed away early Sunday morning.  She fought so hard - she endured several different chemo treatments that had such horrible side effects on her body.  Yesterday afternoon, my Uncle Ronnie passed away from COPD.  He was bed-ridden for almost 2 1/2 years.  I will miss both of them.

I finally got a surgery date and treatment plan for my breast cancer that was diagnosed at the end of March.  I will be having a bi-lateral mastectomy on July 27th, followed by an immediate DIEP flap reconstruction.  The DIEP flap reconstruction uses abdominal tissue and blood vessels to reconstruct the breasts. The whole surgery should last about 10 hours.  I am a little scared...but I just don't want to have to deal with breast cancer coming back.  I am thankfully NED for my signet ring cancer!

As for the life part, school is almost out for the summer!  We are busy with baseball and cheerleading banquets, an 8th grade dance for my son, my daughter is being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society tonight, and my son has an 8th grade awards ceremony next week.  I am trying to coordinate visits with friends and family and plan some fun outings for the kids for the first part of the summer - as I won't be able to go anywhere or do much of anything in August while I recover.  I am also trying to get things in order here at home so that things run smoothly after surgery.

    I'm so sorry to hear

about the loss of your loved ones.  Your uncle's death is a reminder that there are a lot of really sucky diseases out there.  :/

But glad to hear they got your plan in place for the breast cancer...I know it always helped my anxiety once everything was set.  Hope it does for you too.

    Big hugs~AA

PS congrats on your daughter's success!  That is so awesome and you must be very proud of her.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss.

It sounds like you have a very good plan in place for July.  Being very busy will certainly help the few weeks pass quickly.

It sounds as though you are a tough lady which will make this a peice of cake! The kids being home and not having to be run around will likely be a blessing as well!  I wish you the very best in your surgery and a smooth recovery.

Keep on keeping on!  Congrats on NED for signet!! Silver lining!

Wow, you really have a full plate. I am so sorry for your loss and at such a diffacult time. I am glad you have a surgery date and at least not having to deal with colon cancer right now with everything else you have to deal with.
