i just changed my picture to show how well I have recovered from the head and neck and small bowel cancer. I have gained a stone in weight in 5 weeks, was 7 St 12oz now I'm almost 9 st. I've been on 2400 calories in 24 hours. Shows things work when you get the correct treatment. for months I blamed my formulas for making me vomit and in pain every day but it was the tumour that caused it,once it was removed I rapidly recovered. The picture was taken a few days ago.

    calories

ive been on a formula diet. I have in the daytime 3 bottles of ensure 2cal at 400 cal each that's 1200 cals then overnight I have a 1000 ml bottle ensure 1.5. I have 8/900mls of that by pump while I sleep. I also can take things by mouth now so I'm drinking the ensures through a straw and only use the PEG tube overnight. I had my throat opened after it was completely blocked for nearly two years. I can eat soft food eg: yoghurt, ice cream, soups etc. I tried chopped up pasta the other day but didn't like the bits in my throat. If anyone has a blocked throat it can be opened by going up through the PEG tube to the esophogus with a probe with a wire at the same time another surgeon goes down the esophogus to the blockage with a light probe and the two probes meet and open the scar tissue. After that you have 10 to15 dilations one a week at first then 3 weekly. I'm opened now to 18mm. I have a few more to go yet. I can swallow liquid normally now without choking back some. I shall never be able to eat things like steak and chips but finely chopped stews and casseroles I will be able to manage. I was the second one the hospital had done but now five of us have been given back the ability to swallow. A man I was talking to had his for blockage three years, he was done after me but can now swallow water. It's amazing how quickly the weight goes on when you have enough calories. I shall cut back soon otherwise I'll end up fat. I can now go out with my family and sit and drink soft drinks with them, before I only had my tube which I was too embarrassed to pull out in front of strangers.

    great!

So glad to read your post. Sounds like you are a very solid track to feeling better than ever. Your journey points how other conditions can really cause delay and disruptuions in one's recovery.
