My wife pass away jan 2008 from colon cancer.

r we any closer of a cure?

she fought for 6 years!

My husband passed away in October, 2012 from this disease. He fought for 3 1/2 years. Unfortunately, in my opinion, no, we are no closer to a cure or new treatments. We get our hopes up for new treatments, but the last few that came around, were total failures, in my opinon.

No hope here

My husband passed away 11/2/14 after 23 months with colon cancer. He was staged at 2 initially but within 3 months of finishing Folfox, it came back. I don't have much faith in a "Cure" let alone remission after what I experienced with him. Last August they told him he had about 2 years and then in September they told him he had weeks to months left. His 10 months of treatment last year cost our insurance company around $350,000 and for what? This is why I don't think any pharmaceutical companies would want a cure, there's too much money to be made in treatment.

And the list gets bigger

The list of freinds on this forum who have died gets bigger and bigger, and I suspect that we don't get to hear about more of them because their loved ones don't post after their death.

Our little ACS comminity is just a drop in the ocean of Colorectal patients, so the number is vast.

My guess is that they will never find a cure. In fact, it just seems like more and more people are getting diagnosed, and while more of us are surviving for longer periods of time, meaning that the treatments are improving as treatments, I don't think they are improving as cures.

These are just my own personal thoughts and observations.

I am truly sorry for your loss. As you know, having been an active member here in the past, we deal with the loss of friends all too often.

I feel like they are making

I feel like they are making strides. I'm not sure how quickly it will happen, but I do feel like there are a lot of folks out there trying. I think cancer is just so tricky and individual that it's nearly impossible...but hopefully we will find that magic pill or treatment. I have not given up hope.

Also, I have never been good with grammar, punctuation or wording myslef properly. I'm uneducated, having left school (at their request) at the age of 15, and it shows. I can blame some spelling on the fact that I am English, but I know that doesn't cover all of my mistakes.

I got all upset over nothing.

Being uneducated is a sore spot for me. I have always considered myself the fool, and of course, it hurts if its pointed out by others. I mingle with the educated hoping that my ignorance doesn't stand out too much; and now look, I've confessed it all and will be shunned (just kidding! I know you won't judge me too harshly).

I can't admit to knowing Arabic, so I put the blame fully on your computer, Jen.

Wiping away the tears now and heading off to my happy place up the canyon.

Thanks for clearing it up straight away, Jen. It would have spoiled my day otherwise.

Sue, I have the same problem reading you first post on this thread. Some of your other post on other threads are the same way. Just in the past week. Very strange.

No, no, it's just the font that you used. It happened to me once when I typed out a note on my computer and copied to this site, it came out looking like Egyptian hieroglyphics.

I agree with you! I watched a special on TV about a doctor curing cancer in the 50s that used to persons only immune system it was very interesting because he claims cancer does not have that many different kinds of cells! It was very interesting because this particular person was full of tumors and he took out of her body what they call T cells and he made them in the thousands put him back into her body and it did destroy the tumors she was cancer free! Oh I feel that chemo does is prolong life my wife's cancer reoccurred three different times in a matter of two years apart! I'm not going to say we don't try to cure cancer I think we have too much money invested into chemotherapy!
