Second opinions

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Does anyone have any information on Tufts Medical or CTCA for second opinions?

Trying to get a game plan in order.

Would love any input or thoughts on these places.

 

On a better note .. I hope every Mom out there was able to enjoy your day.

    I think I would go with Tufts...

    I've heard some funky stuff from other patients about CTCA that would make me nervous about using them.

    Thanks for your response. .. I called 4 Cancer Centers.

     Tufts said I am a HIPEC candidate and am leaning towards this tx rather than the radiation/chemo then surgery road.  I know how risky it is .. but in my case so is radiation .. so its a crap shoot either way.  I hope to gain the longest remission possible. Surgeon does not feel he can "cure" me.

    You might want to speak with Dr. Laura Lambert at UMASS Worcester.  I've heard nothing but wonderful things about her, and know a number of people who have had HIPEC with her.

    I worked at Tufts for 20

    I worked at Tufts for 20 years and there were many great docs there. 

    When I was diagnosed, I went to MGH ( for privacy), still seen there, and have had a very good experience.

    "I called Cancer Centers of America and found that only two of the facilities will take Medicare patients and then only if they live in-State.  As they don't have a facility in California, that rules me out.  Just for grins, I asked what it would cost if I paid for it myself and was told that they needed a deposit of $250,000 (or it might have been $350K I can't find my notes) and a certified copy of my financial statement showing that I was good for some astronomical amount more - possibly $1 million, I had stopped listening by then.  So if you are on Medicare that should be your first question, whether you happen to be living in the same State as the two facilities that will accept it - and I have a suspicion that even if you do, they might have "reached their quota" of Medicare patients right then.  This outfit is very definitely a for-profit company, not that there is anything wrong with that, but its a shame to be arbitrarily ruled out of being treated there just because I'm over 65 and live in California!

    Just my 2 cents.

    I did recieve a phone call

    I did recieve a phone call back and was kindly rejected for insurance reasons.  I'm good .... I kindly asked them to shred my personal info they insisted on.
