YES!!! Must have a window.....you have no idea how much I have a hard time with tight and / or confined spaces ...really struggled with the mask and being bolted to the table during rads,,,,everyday I would ask the team "you will be watching me closely right?" and of course they would say yes as long as a football game was not on (such kidders) ...and I would spell all of my kids name and say their birthdays ....then the 10 minutes would go by quicker :)

    Rads Techs and Facility
My facility would always have juices, yogurts and snacks sitting out for patients... Of course, that didin't do me much of any good.....ummmpppfff.

One day near the end of rads when the saliva and taste were completely gone..., I walk in on a Friday just around 1:00 or so, and they are having a pizza party lunch... Damn, it smelled so good...so of course I'm a littley pissy since I can smell it, but not have a single taste, my throat was pretty much like hamburger by then anyways.

Several months after I came in for the six month check/consult.

I was giving them crap about eating in front of me that day....

LOL, justice was served they told me... Apparently they all got sick because something apparently was bad on the pizza's.....

So anyways, we all had a good laugh.

    Best,
    John

    Laryngitis after radiation

Hi Tim. I'm new to csn and was very excited to find this website.  I had piriform sinus SCCa and had chemo athen chemo radiation.  I lost my voice for about one week during treatment.  I am one year out now and NED!!  My voice was fine until about 3months ago when I lost it after working clearing dead fall on our property.  We were using chainsaws and a wood chipper.  Three months later I still have no voice, and have severe lymph edema of my larynx by ENTs scopes.  I would caution you about your work with wood and subjecting yourself to sawdust.  I don't know if or when my voice will return.  Good luck.

    Hi Elaine,

This is an old post!  I don't know if this person is still around CSN or not - I didn't recognize the name.

Congrats on being NED and one year out.  I had tonsil cancer in 2007 w/ surgery, chemo, and radiation.

I started losing my swallowing capability a couple years ago, and then eventually my voice.  Scoped, scanned (CT), swallow tests, examed - doctors didn't find anything.  Eventually a new tumor popped through the esophagus wall , and I ended up with a totaly laryngectomy.  I hope you got a PET scan - If I had, it might have been found sooner.

I am a year+ out from this second cancer and doing well.  Working part time, and enjoying life.

Start a new post and introduce yourself.  I didn't join until well after my first cancer - wish I had known about this.  Great folks on this site.

    Hi guys

thank you both for your responses. I realized after I wrote this that Tim had not posted in several years.  Since I'm new to this, and I don't do FB or any other internet media it may take me awhile to get comfortable with it.  I know I have been immensely reassured to read that I am not alone.  I've looked for a support group in my city of 1,000,000 + and have found none.  Since I cant talk this is just what I need.  Thanks you guys..  e

    Trach

I had a total laryngectomy, so I breath totally through my neck.  A trache is actually something differnt, where you can breath through your neck and through your mouth and nose.

    I'll PM you my email.
