Stomach Cancer Stage 4 - just starting treatment

Hello all,

We were a happy, carefree family of three - me, my husband & our 15 yr old son. Then suddenly, on March 19 2015, my healthy 49 yr old husband was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, which has turned our lives upside down.

We are still in the 'shock' stage of the diagnosis.

He has adenocarcinoma with mets to his omentom, lymph, and lungs. We are just embarking on our cancer treatment journey, having just completed 10 sessions of radiation (which has really helped), and facing chemo starting 11 May.

I just found this site, and find it a source of support to read about other's experiences with stomach cancer. I am sick of researching statistics that only bring me down. I find the reading about the journeys of others is much more inspiring, and supportive.

I started a blog at the beginning of our family's journey, and I invite you to read about our story...

I will continue to read your posts as well. If any of you have personal blogs about your cancer journey, pls share your links (if they are not private).

Thanks for listening!

    Hi,
    I am also fighting this

    Hi,

I am also fighting this battle. Diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer in 2012, total gastrectomy with HIPEC early 2013. There have been many challenges but a talented medical team, family and friends have gotten me where I am today.

Everybody's journey is different, but I would like to share any knowledge if it will help.

    Stay strong,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,
    Thanks for replying.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for replying. I do have a question..did chemo reduce you cancer enough for it to become operable? That truly gives me hope. Any knowledge you can share is greatly appreciated, as we are just starting our fight.

    In a word, yes.

The initial prognosis was pretty bad and the first surgeon told me that the chemo would have to "work a miracle" if I was to become eligible for surgery.

Fortunately it did shrink the tumor. The oncologist was pretty aggressive with the chemo and the nausea was bad until I learned to manage it with meds. During the weeks between the last chemo (before surgery) and the actual surgery, I felt better than I had in almost two years.

Everybody reacts to chemo a little differently and I truly hope your husband has an easy time of it. I was able to keep a positive attitude and my wife was at my side for everything, that made it all seem a little easier.

Rest assured that I wil be praying for you and be here to help if I can.

    Dan
