Moral Support
I've been working with a trainer to try to rebuild some strength and stamina and to deal with the neuropathy-induced balance issues because chemo is awesome yo. I am very ambitious, you see, and decided to try one of the balance stands before said trainer got to the gym this morning. I would hold onto the pole for support. What could go wrong?
Apparently, pretty much everything as I immediately found myself on the floor not thoroughly convinced that I hadn't managed to break my leg in the fall. I am now attempting to treat it with an ice pack and a Samoa (Girl Scout cookie).
Seems legit.
So I told my Mom that when she texted to ask how things went this morning. The replies:
Mom: Are they aware that you did it at the gym?
Me: Yes. The trainer knows too.
Mom: I take it that you're not putting the Samoa on your leg?
Me: No. The ice is for my leg. The Samoa is there for moral support.
Who taught my Mom how to text anyway?
*giggle*

Dearest Lady....
Doesn't it just suck that we have lost a certain amount of control over our bodies.
I too have been left with a balance problem. Its funny really, because I just got my old, one day a week job back, as a medical assistant. My boss, well he broke his back and walks very oddly, sometimes when I worked for him before, I would have to steady him. Yep, you know whats coming; now he has to steady me. Hopefully we won't both topple at the same time.
I hope you haven't broken your leg. Keep us informed. And I think you're rather good just to be eating a Samoa, I think I would want chocolate... a whole bar of chocolate.
I presume you are going to wait for your trainer next time?

I am totally in your boat!!
I am totally in your boat!! Hate being so limited and aware of all I lost as far as physical strength and endurance. I attepted the gym last year with epic fail, classes last month and had to quit half way through!!! Arrrggghhhh ... slow and steady I guess. But determination will see us through. Keep on keeping on!! My best to you!

Yep, balance sucks!
I have similar issues and wish I had a Samoa for emotional support . Do you think a cotton candy Oreo would suffice? There's no chocolate, but they're sweet. My balance is compunded my knee problems.
While it's good you want to improve your balance, please be careful. Getting hurt won't help. Take care, Traci

should eat a Samoa if you don't fall ...and two If you do fall...maybe one just for standing up. I stand up, wait a minute then start walking. If my husband held the cookies across the room... WAIT a minute that's bad thinking. He'd eat them before I reached him.

the only thing wrong
The only thing wrong with the whole situation is that you waited to eat the Samoa until something happened. If you had eaten it as soon as you arrived at the gym, you probably would have been eating it instead of playing trainer with your own recovery. Not only that, but if the trainer had seen you eating a Samoa and you did not have one for them because you ate them all (assumes you are motral and did not stop eating them until they are all gone), then your session would likely have been brutal and therefore thoroughly productive. If the trainer had arrived in time to pry one out of your hands to allow you the blessing of sharing, then the trainer would likely have been extra nice to you and perhaps even helped you to acheive better results.
Well the important thing here is that, regardless of the outcome, you did eat the Samoa!
peace,
Rick
PS - we told my mother that her phone does do texts. On the other hand if we allowed her to text I am certain autocorrect would have provided us with constant amusement.
