IVC
Hi. My husband had IVC invasion. When he had a total nephrectomy they removed the part of the tumor that had grown up into the vena cava. The tumor had not grown into the walls of the vessel. I would imagine that treatment would be dependent on how it is growing into the vessel. I'm sorry that I don't have any more information to offer. What treatments are you being offered?

At the moment I am taking pazopanib and this last scan has shown a slight decrease in a small piece of the invasion so at the moment it is, keep taking pazopanib and keep radiotherapy as a later option.

Hi. There is not much in the literature because its not very common. Local recurrance occurs in about 2-4% of all rcc recurances however if you have had previous ivc invasion your are at higher risk. Have they offered you surgery to remove it again?

Hi b1 thank you for your reply, I havent had ivc invasion before I had right kidney taken out along with a 9.8cm tumour and was stage 4 from outset, it was after first ct scan that possible recurrence with possible ivc invasion was mentioned. Now after 2more ct scans they now say recurrence is mentioned again with IVC invasion. I just wondered if it was seriously worrying as onc team have said it shrunk slightly this last scan and radiotherapy was being kept as an option. If anyone else has had this happen what questions should I be asking what would you ask? Should I mention surgery (i live in Scotland so dont know much about specialists here etc)
Thanks again
Lots of love
