18 yr old son... softball sized cyst has a blood supply

Hello again. I posted a few weeks ago about my 18 yr old son.  He went snow skiing and thought maybe he injured something when he fell so took him to the ER.  MRI showed what looked to be a cyst with some calcification and filled with blood. Because it was filled with blood the MRI image couldn't reveal what exactly it was. Our hopes were that it was a benign cyst that was injured skiing and was bleedinh due to the trauma. He just had his first ultrasound since and dr said the blood has cleared enough to do the MRI but it's clear that this thing has it's own blood supply. With it being so big and now this, I'm afraid the probability of it being benign is less probable now. MRI scheduled for next Tuesday. :(

    Hi Blondy!
    Thanks for posting

    Hi Blondy!

Thanks for posting again. Did your son have a CT scan at all? I know the CT scan will be better than an MRI - it shows a cross section of everything.

Hoping it is benign...please keep us posted.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Hugs

He had one when we first went

He had one when we first went in a month ago, but those images were obstructed too because there was too much blood. As of now only another MRI is scheduled.

    Blondy,

Whatever it is, it's clear that it's causing a number of problems with your son. When I was first diagnosed they don't tell you if it's cancerous or not; that's not "official" until the pathology confirms it.  But whatever it was, the doctor said that at my age the plan would still be to remove it.  Has that been talked about?  To me, nothing was more important than getting it out.

    Fully agree, it should go

Fully agree, it should go out. Only after that you'll have piece of mind. If it is benign - great! If not - in this case he won't have cancer anymore, so good anyway.

    Tuesday... hope to know something

My son's MRI was last Tuesday,  but apparently the radiologists that will be reading it is on vacation. A team of doctors are supposed to be uniting tomorrow for discussion and then we meet them this Tuesday.  I pray we find something out. This wait has taken it's toll on all of us.

And yes, I do believe the plan now is to definitely remove it regardless of what images can or can't reveal.
