Today is a GOOD day

in Anal Cancer #1

I just want to share with you all that today is my 2 year mark (the day I finished treatment in 2013 for T2 or 3, N0, M0).

I had MANY appointments in January (some how they all ended up in Jan. instead of March).....pelvic & abdominal MRI, blood work, high resolution anoscopy, oncologist & radiologist check-ups and all came back clear! 

It may sound odd but I think this diagnisis made me realize how blessed I am.  I am much more appreciative of life's victories (good doctor reports) and joys (a really good glass of Birthday Cake wine last night Smile)

    Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary and your good results ! So happy to see good news, hope you celebrate this weekend. I have pelvic and chest scans Monday so needless to say scanxiety is setting in but your good news takes me down a notch. Keep it coming. Hugs and smiles to you.

    Fantastic news!  I am so happy for you and if it makes you feel even better, I spoke with Dr. Catherine Eng this morning at the International Anal Neoplasia Society's conference and when I told her I was 6 1/2 years post-treatment, she said most people are considered "cured" at the 2-year mark.  Those were her words exactly and that's the first time any doctor has ever said that to me.  You have every reason to be hopeful that you have beaten this disease and I hope you will find a way to celebrate!  Congratulations!

    Wonderful news! It's good to know you are still on track, and with Martha's reassuring sharing that 2 years is considered to be 'cure' point, it's all good.

    CURED!!

    Wow Martha...cured is rarely a word you hear in oncology circles (except for testicular cancer)  and the usual "5" yrs is also just a hope.  As a breast cancer NED(no evidence of disease...more accurate than "survivor) I know of recurrences 15,20 years later.  So to hear Dr. Eng say this is truly exciting, as she is probably one of the few oncs who specialize in a.c

    your presentation was outstanding.  I look forward to hearing what Dr. Eng had to say about future research .  This disease MUST come out of the closet and I think the Cancer centers also have to be in the lead..  March 21 is Anal Cancer Awareness day and their should be lovely posters or whatever in the lobby of every cancer center.

    2 years

    I've heard two years referred to as a big milestone on this site and my radiologist just told me in January that two years is very good as most recurrances occur by then.  His words were "2 years is as good as 52 years!"  He told me from the beginning that this was curable.  Having Dr. Eng reiterate that is very reassuring.

    I fell very blessed!

    two years

    My doctors don't say "cured" but it's clear to me from what they have said that once I had passed the 2 year mark they were confident that I would not experience a recurrence.  In fact both oncologists now have me on a once a year appointment schedule.  It's really good to hear that Dr. Eng spoke so candidly about "cured".  

    And thank you so much for speaking at the conference and sharing your speech with us.  Awesome!
