I'm sorry you are having some troubling symptoms, but glad to hear that the tests/exams you have had to date have been all clear.  I can only tell you what symptoms I was experiencing prior to my diagnosis of anal cancer in June 2008.  Those included fatigue, constipation, bloating and gas, a feeling of not being completely emptied out after a BM, mucous discharge, itching, and lastly, bleeding.  If you are still having symptoms and feel like something has been missed, then I would urge you to consult a colorectal specialist for a second opinion that includes an anoscope examination.  An anoscope is designed to view the anal canal only, unlike sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, which can oftentimes not provide a good look at the anal canal.

I wish you well and hope that you get answers for the symptoms you're having.

    Im confused!!

Thanks Dear..the last time i visited a colerectal Dr I reminded him he should have taken a biopsy of the Anal fissure. He insists they dont usually take biopsy of an anal fissure unless its suspicious (maybe  like a boil or ulcerated appearance) that what I have is chronic fissure but as my stomach pains shows no signs of abathing im really scared stiff

I've had a fissure for a long time ... a (sitz) bath can be used to keep the area clean and I dab a bit of Aquaphor on what I think might be a fissure (using a Q-Tip).  I'm doing this, hoping that by the time I see the specialist in a few months, the fissure will just be healed ... you could try Aquaphor for a week after baths to lubicate the area, perhaps make sure BM's don't tear the "fissure" and hopefully heal it?  Just a thought, hope this helps a bit.  I had a biopsy near the sphinter muscle on a tumor and it's something I try to avoid in the future, if I can.  Also, I try to make sure I have soft BM's, (lots of fiber foods).

    CT and MRI

    Hey Ulisis.

Just wanted to say that prior to my mum's anal cancer diagnosis, her CT scan was clear. It was the MRI that revealed her lesion. I say this because I think if you are still experiencing symptoms you should 100% insist on more scans, whatever the cost. Don't take no for an answer.

    All the best,

    Adam

I have been bocked to hav a repeat colonoscopy next week what understand is why the D initially didn't take a biopsy of the chronic fissue that was initially diagonosed for me. One other thing for the past 2-days now I have been having some strange feeling around my lungs like someone with symptoms of phemonea.I just hope this problem has not affected my lungs Considering it is about 8months since this health issue startedn is it not too early for metastasis

    anal fissure

Ulisis - A colonoscopy examines the g-i tract at a higher level.  It is recommended for routine health prevention.  Sometimes, surgery is required to treat fissures.  Fissures are a risk factor for anal cancer, but, I think it's rare.  I have not noted anyone on this site who had a fissure prior to diagnosis of anal cancer.

Fear of the unknown causes a lot of anxiety.  Why not visit your primary doctor & have him/her examine you & help you through this?  The feelings in your lungs may be due to anxiety.

    Best wishes!

    I greatly appreciate your

I greatly appreciate your timely response Sir..My confision now is about this issue of taking biopsy of a lesion during a colonoscopy. I have read about some people in this forum that had there initial colonoscopy result as "all clear" but when they repeated the procedure much later,a +ve result for a maliginancy will be established. Is it that the biopsy result they probably had with the initial colonoscopy was inconclusive? My family Dr say i should insist on them biopsing the lesion.. during any DRE i intend to have...that only when it it full proof..Im sorrrry to have taken much of your time

If the MD who does your colonoscopy finds anything abnormal I think a biopsy would be ok to do.  However, I am a little skeptical about unnecessary biopsies in the anal area even though I did have it done to me by a colorectal surgeon.  Fortunately, I did not have any permanant loss of sphincter control.

What happened to me & others on this site is that they had colonoscopies that did not pick up anal cancer.  In my case, the gastroenterologist who did the colonoscopy diagnosed me as having an internal hemorrhoid.  I had occasional blood with stools.  He should have referred me to a colorectal surgeon or done an anal pap.

I had a biopsy of a polyp at a higher level in the colon at the same colonoscopy which was negative.  I do not think you should be fearful of a routine biopsy done by a gastroenterologist or colorectal surgeon of a lesion in the colon.

By the way, I am female:)

I hope this information is helpful to you.  Keep us posted.

My colorectal doctor did my biopsy during my colonoscopy.  Two days prior, she had examined me with a digital rectal exam and anoscope and found my tumor, so she knew to take a very thorough look at the anal area during my colonoscopy.  Colonoscopy is not really the best exam to view the anal area.  But, as in my case, if the doctor is aware ahead of time that there may be a suspicious area in the anal canal, they do have the capability during colonoscopy to look at that area and, as in my case, obtain a biopsy specimen at that time.  If I were you, I would make sure your doctor understands that you want him/her to thoroughly examine your anal canal and rectum, in addition to your colon, during the scope procedure.  I would also make it clear that the lesion needs to be biopsied.  I agree with your family doctor that this is the only way to rule in or rule out cancer.  I wish you all the very best with this procedure.

    anal fissure

Ulissis- <www.mayoclinic.org> has a good write-up on anal fissure.

If you decide to have a biopsy, ask the surgeon to explain to you in detail exactly what & where he/she is going to take a sample.  I think that it is done with a needle & the sample taken is small & from various levels at the same site.

    Keep us posted!

    Has anybody Feltlike this?

Lately I have been very worried about some symptoms i started developing gradually. I was having some worring pain around my LUNGs area started with an intense pain around my rt holder blade area within 3 days the pain had gone to the other side of the shoulder..if i laugh, or cough i will experience pain in my lungs..and around my rib cage.Out of fear i had to quickly arrange a chest X-ray but the procedure didnt pick any abnomalities..but surpringly after the xray all those horible feelings i was having disappeared including the permanent bloating and stomach pains. 3 days later the pains are gradually coming back around my chest and am beginning to bloat again. I had the same experience about 3 months ago when i was asked to do abdominal ct scan.  all th symptoms i was having then suddenly stopped after the scan but gradually resurfaced after about a week. Is it that the radiation appears to interfare with my condition?

Since you don't have any clues about what is causing your pain, see your primary care doctor and ask them about seeing the appropriate type of specialist.
