why not have a hysterectomy?

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

My best friend has been diagnosed with Uterine cancer recently.  She is in Cancer Centers of America.  She is currently having radiation, for about 5 weeks, and then will have some type of surgery, but not a hysterectomy.   Her scans have showed hot spots in her abdomin.  She will then have brachythrerapy.  Why would they not do a hysterectomy?  Trying to understand.  Would she feel nausious from the radiation in her abdomin?  Mary(I am a Breast Cancer Survivor of 5 years)

    Well first I think we would

    Well first I think we would all ask "Is she seeing a gynecological oncologist?"  I guess the next question would be "exactly what TYPE of uterine cancer?"  As a survivor, and her BFF, you can probably ask her, "what Stage is her cancer?" (a tough question and not one I would take from anyone but my BFF myself)

    I can't say I have seen a woman here who has NOT had a hysterectomy, depending on what we have depends on how much they take.  Type 1 cancer is said to be a "typical garden variety" and is handled by a complete hysterectomy and no treatment.  A Type 2 cancer, the aggressive ones, get surgery and chemo/radiation. (for the most part) 

    I am just curious, why did she choose Cancer Center of America?  Their advertisments on tv (for all of who have laid around after surgery the CCA and attorneys are the ones who run commercials all day!) say they take on the tough cases.

    I have no idea

    But is it possible it's a gyn cancer that is not uterine?  Cervical, maybe?  Hope you find out more and educate us.

    I found out a little more information.  My Girlfriend has had alot of major health issues over the years.  She has a shunt, and also a pain pump. She has hardware, tubes, etc. that the Dr.'s are not willing to tough unless absolutely necessary. She had a hard time finding a Dr. that would even treat her because of all her health issues. The treatment plan was for radiation and then Brachytherapy.  I am wondering how well she will do without the Historectomy.  Praying for her!

    Oh, I am sorry to hear this.  She does have a lot going on and explains why they are approaching it with treatment the way they are.  I hope she has found someone who can truly help her with her diagnosis.  Cancer is such a terrible disease.

    I too did not have surgery-I

    I too did not have surgery-I have a Uterian cancer specialist and he would not operate after the PET scane showed the cancer spread to the limp nods by the uterius,and my right hip. He had said once it moves from the original area-operating can cause more harm and more spreading-so I started radiation right away this was all just in Oct 2014-radition killed the main cancer in the uterius and limp nods and now started chemo for the right hip-(small one in the liver and lungs that were new after radiation) I don't find many people to talk to that has not had surgery-so its nice to hear I'm not alone in that.
