laryngoscopy.????

has anyone else had to do this after treatment?  It was just sprung on me and no way with my anxiety could I do that without being knocked out.  They only told me when they called as a reminder for my pet scan which scares the hell out of me anyway.  Is it common? Necessary? Other options?

    No big deal.....Really

They will spray your throat to numb it. I had it done every two months for a year and now it's every six. I like the scope better then the mirror but it is ok as well. Some times I got to see it on the monitor with the scope. It is really a great tool. If they see something they can do biopsy or in my case the first time they can do a brushing and collect samples. They will go down your nose and or mouth, the nose is best because they see all of that as well. You have to be awake is best. They will ask you to say letters, like "E" it opens up your vocal cords, which don't have but I still have to do it. It changes the shape of your throat. They did do it to me when I was out during surgery. You'll be fine, it is really not a big deal to have done. They can even take photos if needed.

    YES

    Rp,

Is that what it is called?  It is easy, quick and painless (unless they forget to mist).  It is about on par with a hair cut in my book.

Quick count, I have had around 10, all clear on the tongue front (now).

The 'ol scope, poke and prod.

I've had one done every three months since treatment ended as opposed to CT or PETs. No biggie. They numb your throat and you don't feel a thing.

    scope

Not sure if that is what they just refer to as scoping at my ENTs or not. If so, they use the children's scope on me because I got anxious over it the first time. That helped and now I do it when I have to. They go thru my nose and still use the children's one.

    I've had over 20

I've had about 20 nasal endoscopies. One a month the first year. 2nd year every other month. Third year 4X/year and I'm now at 3X/year. Your ENT will spray a little lidocaine mixed with decongestant up each nostril. You will feel a little pressure as it passes through the nasal cavity and into your throat but there won't be any pain.

Your ENT will make you say EEEEEEEEEEE a few times to check your vocal chords.

    Nothing to it! Piece-o-cake.

It is one of the first lines of defense against recurrence.

I have had different Dr's do

I have had different Dr's do my npl. The first couple times they did the mist. One wasn't a bad aftertaste, the others were unpleasant so I just do them now without the spray. I like it better. It is probably just the anxiety. Like somebody else said, I like them better than the mirror and the deep finger/choke method. Well worth it, over in minutes.
