Rapid heartbeats and high blood pressure
Went to my GP on Wednesday due to a suspicion that I had prostatitis. The nurse took my blood pressure and it was 152 over 96, I said thats high, she agreed and then took my pulse, that was at 108. Doctor came in we went through the symptoms I had and the old finger test and said that I do indeed have prostatitis, put me on Cipro. That evening I had my son (he's a medical assistant) take my blood pressure and pulse, Bp was a 160 over 100, pulse was 109, It stayed around there for most of Friday. Sat at lunchtime he took it again and it was still 158 over 106 and pulse was at 112, off to the emergency room. I was hooked up to everything after my EKG, EkG was Ok, but BP and pulse was bad. Had bloodwork done and chest x-ray. They said I was having palpitations and would need to see a cardiologist. You may remember I had a quad by-pass in 2008. Bloodwork came back good, no heart enzymes or anything and had a really good number for my kidneys, did show that I had bacteria in my urine consiatent with prostate infection. at 9pm last night they sent me home. Today pulse has behaved itself hovering in the high 70's to 80's but blood pressuer still really high. Will call my Gp and cardiologist tomorrow morning to see what this is all about. Denis.

Hoping for the best for you.
Here's hoping this is the infection... and nerves... My blood pressure spikes up when I am under stress. Bad cold, difficulty breathing, and my bp was 180 over something or other equally high. Breathing treatment, and it went down again.

Keeping fingers crossed....
Hope it is just an infection and that might have triggered your adrenaline to take off, which will rase the heart rate and BP. It can be a hard cycle to get out of.
I had to have my TEP [prosthesis] in my neck so I can talk changed do to it leaking. It's a four hr drive and 215 miles so when I got their and walked from the undergroung parking to the SLP office I was a little winded. My BP went way up, 178/96 which is very high for me, normal is 120/70 or lower. The nurse was concerned so I explained the drive and walk. What also made it go way up was my concern with the leak and I could asperate very bad. It was my adrenaline pumping that rased it.
Now your heart rate is back down, lets hope your BP does the same. You're in my thoughts and prayers Denis.

Hi Denis
Same here but mine is due to radiation of the Carotid Artery in the neck. My blood pressure can go from 60/49 to 220/135 then drop back down just as fast; if I lay down it will get worse. I am on two blood pressure meds that I take at night only when I am lying down. My heart doctor said I am very hard to treat because what does he treat the high or the low BP.
PS: Watch taking Cipro it can mess with your BP, I can’t take it, as it will keep my BP running high. Just something most doctors don't know...
