Surgery done
I am doing exceptionally well or at least the morphine makes me think I am! They were very concerned with how best to put me under. Anesthesia was difficult and the most concerning safety issue for them. I had Mayo send them the procedure they used in September using nasal fiber optics, they ended up using same procedure. Also had something new that looked like an old perfume atomizer with a rod on end. They kept moving it back and spraying to numb back of throat before starting. Checked by having me shove a tongue depressor back there. When I got it in Doc said ok I would have vomited by now, that is good enough. And, that is all I remember. I also had such great success and no nausea with a drug anesthia used when I had kidney stones removed that I. Had gotten that report and gave to both Mayo and here. Guess what I am trying to share is when something works well for you, ask for the notes to pass along in case a future surgery is needed. Will keep you updated but so far so good. Will do hyperbarics and pray this fistula heals.

Mayo
I went to the Mayo clinic in Phoenix about 4 years ago and was very impressed with them and how they treat people. The ENT there scoped me and took a biopsy where the NPC was with me sitting up with no anesthesia just a local pain spray. She kept asking if I was ok and I kept saying yes so she kept going, man I was glad when it was over. But it saved me from having to do it as a medical procedure; the good part was when they told us everything came back showing no NPC. Praying for you on the HBO, I have completed 50 dives to this day and hope I never need them again. Only thing wrong with them, they are a pain in the butt for someone who is still working.
God Bless

HBO is a big inconvenience. I think I did 40 in 2012. Have 30 under my belt this time with 10 more to go...at least I hope that is all. I was still working in 2012 but retired now so that takes some pressure off schedule. Several places to choose from in STL but none offer evening apps. I find it a hassle to get dressed, go, get undressed, dress in scrubs, get undressed and get dressed in street clothes again. Last time I followed all the rules to a T, no Nail polish, no makeup...not so much this time. They said ok if nothing oil based. Hope it is worthwhile.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Hope to get out of hospital tomorrow. Heal time expected to be a month. Issues with low blood pressure yet to be resolved. They pulled the morphine but that hasnt resolved. Asymptomatic so far.

Prayers that you continue to heal and recovery is quick.. Hope the fistula is closed and remains that way..
