Max, I'm glad to know you made it through your surgery OK. Sorry about the pain, but happy you have good medications. Rest. Take it easy. You will be yourself again in no time.

As stated on Wednesday I came out of surgery ok, and went home Thursday.  All of the "technical" aspects of the surgery were good: surgeon took the whole gland and both "seminial vesticals," which are two ducts which go from the prostate and sort of wrap around the bladder.  Prostate surgery does not touch or involve the testicles. I mention this only because I have been asked that question more than once. The prostate and how it is situated is a mystery, even to most men.

The incision holes are very close to the earlier gall bladder laproscopic holes, except more of them: Six new holes, about an inch each, and one large incision directly above the naval, 3" or 4 " The small wounds look virtually identical to the gall bladder wounds from four years ago.  The surgeon used a "daVinci machine," which requires numerous entry points.  Because the urethra runs through the prostate, after the gland is removed, the urethra must be reattached to the base of the bladder, and that is why the cathetra is in: it must stay in place until the urethra is healed.

I mentioned it before: lymphoma treatment has one good thuing about it, if nothing else: It seldom requires cutting someone up. These cuts are always sore, even when careful and small, but are already healing fast.  I see the doc Tuesday when the cath comes out, and am going to ask about going back to work at the end of the week.  Urology is essentially plumbing, but on  a human.   We'll see what he says.  Currently I cannot bend down at all, and sitting or lying down is a very slow proposition.

  Thanks so much for explaining the process...you are fantastic with details! You will feel so much better once the cath comes out. I'm sure you will know when your strong enough to go back to work, so I won't begin to lecture you about going back too soon...but...don't go back too soon!  I finished my 4th Rituxan on Thursday, so now I just wait to see my doctor on the 5th to get the results of my scan and then find out if more/new chemo is needed. I will share the news when I find out. Anxious for the big game tomorrow...cheering our Seahawks on for a 2 year win at the Superbowl! Goooo Seahawks! ha! when I was reading your post to him .  Ouch, at least it's over.  We sure hope you heal quickly.  Sounds like things are going good for you too Sue, so glad to know that.  Bill got his Scan report on Thurs. and there is still no sign of MCL. Got the cath removed this morning.  The RN did a few "urine control tests" which I did well on.  Basically, my prostate removal went as easily and well as any man's can.

The pathology analysis of the removed gland was nearly identical to the biopsy results from months ago, except that it changed slightly from a Stage pT1A to a pT2A N0, which is insignificant at this point. There were no "positive margins," which is surgical terminology for when the cancer is touching the edge of the gland or organ.  That is, the disease absolutely did not get out of the gland.

All that is left for me regarding the prostate now is urinary contol, so this little episode in my health adventure is mostly over.
