Update on TraciInLA
Trace here. Surgery is all done and went well. She's having yummy jello and broth and has been up and moving about. She's got much more range of motion than I thought she would so everything is going well. I found a vending machine but only Coke. I'm going to smuggle some Pepsi in later.

Trace again. Traci's surgery went really well. I was getting nervous when it seemed to be taking longer than I thought it was supposed to but the surgeon just rolled his eyes at me and said "It takes as long as it takes". The hospital has this progress board now that updates every few minutes so you can kinda keep track of where they are in the process but it's not very informative beyond that. We got her to her room around dinnertime and she got to have yummy jello, broth and apple juice. Apparently orange jello is pretty good when you haven't eaten all day and your throat is all snarfy from anesthesia. She can move her arms much more freely than we thought so might actually be able to do the macarena today.
She's tracking pretty good, I wasn't able to talk her into buying me a Harley for my birthday and she did inquire about the location of her credit card. We went for a walk around the nurses racetrack and then it was time for her to go to sleep (well, hopefully sleep).
Our son, Justin helped me move the bed and recliner from room to room and now I'm just cleaning in preparation for her coming home today . . . hopefully! They'll teach me how to deal with the drains and the doctor will remove the bandages for the first time. I watched some YouTube videos last week of after mastectomy procedures hoping I'd get used to what I might see 'cause I didn't want to squeak or make a face. I'm going for my casual butch face (Oh look, they gave you a pocket for your kleenex).
The robe is really nice and we just draped the side with the IV and tied the belt to keep it from falling. The pole is just a PIA, you either trip on it or get tangled up. She looks fabulous in it though so who cares.All in all a successful day!

thru the drains sometimes gets to you. Keeping a straight face, and making Traci comfortable may result in a HARLEY - at least I am hoping so!

VickiSam - bleck, thanks for the visual. Thankfully I haven't had anything near that icky with her drains . . . at least not yet.
This is the last update today, I promise.
They released Traci this afternoon so she's home and puttering around. She finally got her Pepsi and a chocolate drink the size of her head so she's very happy watching pretty dress shows and resting. I made her some dinner and we're going to binge watch Star Trek Voyager until it's time to check the drains and take her meds for the night. We'll see how sleeping in a recliner works out but I don't think she cares too much as long as she's not in the hospital.

Glad she is doing well..
Yeah those drains get kind lucky, hopefully she won't need them too long! Glad to hear she got her Pepsi. I found out our hospital is a coke one too, So on the way to er or apps. I have learned to bring along my own Diet Pepsi.
I love that you both see great in life's little bumps! (Or in this case no bumps at all), get some sleep.

Day 4 progress
Trace here. Traci's moving right along. Clean undies and clean hair are what make her happy right now. She's starting to get some twinges here and there but nothing like she was expecting. Her first follow up appt is on Wednesday afternoon so hopefully he'll take the drains out then. There's just no way to get comfortable with the tubes and such.
She got cocky and was tidying up so picked up the bag of bras she wants me to get rid of. Now she's pretty sore on the right side so either she had waaayyyy too many bras and it was heavier than she thought OR she's just had surgery and needs to be a little more gentle with lifting. I'm going with yes to both. I keep telling her to just point and grunt, she's got people for that kind of stuff.
She's still making awesome progress and is my hero this week!

Don't think of them as drains...think of her as a throw back proto-type of a bionic woman.
