I have not heard of this product, so I can't offer any info on it. I don't know your mother's age, what are her doctors saying about the spots on her liver? Have they considered doing any additional chemo, such as carbo and taxol? Liver ablation? If the spots are localized to one area, can they do a resection? I would be asking all kinds of such questions at this point, as there are some anal cancer survivors who have had treatment for liver mets and are doing well. I will try to find out where two people I know of are currently undergoing treatment for liver mets and post the info for you.

The spots are not localized to one area. They are scattered in her liver. Her oncologist said that our only option at this point is chemo with cisplatin. In June when we received the diagnosis of anal cancer, she was treated with 2 rounds of 5FU and mitomycin. Then now in September when we were told that her PET scan showed liver mets and confirmed with biopsy, the doc said that the first 2 chemo agents she received are the same agents he uses to treat liver cancer anyway. He said that she has had liver involvement for a while, that these spots just didn't pop up in 2 months, its just that a PET scan wasnt done until now. But he said that the chemo she received already should have helped with the liver spots. Said that her type of cancer seems to be a resistant one and not very responsive to standard treatment with the first 2 meds. So now we are trying cisplatin. The doc said that after 5 days of this, he will repeat PET scan and see if tumors in liver shrunk and if so, giver her second round but if that the tumors didn't shrink, then not good. He never mentioned carbo or taxol. Are those agents used for anal with mets to liver? He did mention liver ablation and said he would address that after repeat PET scan and see what tumor look like. This is some difficult stuff for me. My mom is 67 and Im in my early 30s. She's my everything. First the doc said that if we don't do chemo, she has approx 3 months of life. She was very much against chemo at first. She has been through so much in 2 years already with her health, in and out of hospitals for different things. It has been a tortuous 2 years for her physically and emotionally and for me emotionally. So with this news of mets, she kinda said, no more. But after discussion with friends and family she decided to try this cisplatin. Of course I was scared to death when the doc said 3 months. But if the cisplatin works, she can have another 3 years.
