Dear Ladies:

It is with very sad news that Arlene Romano, who had Stage 3 of UPSC passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. I knew her from the Uterine Board and she lived not that far from me in Delaware County, PA. Her funeral services will be held this week.

I met Arlene last year in March for lunch at a nearby restaurant close to me. She had her treatment at Lankenau Hospital and she had a reoccurrence this past year in her paraortic lymph node and was going through chemo as she had finished up in late summer. I last spoke with her in September and had asked her about lunch, but she was not feeling well. Arlene was initially diagnosed with UPSC cancer in November of 2011 and had a hysterectomy so she lived a little beyond three years.

I just feel so bad and my heart goes out to her husband and family who I have not met. I wanted to let all the ladies know on the Board of Arlene's passing. Please keep Arlene's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time for her family.

Jane, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend

it is always so sad when one of our uterine warriors loses their battle. I will certainly keep you and her family in my prayers for peace and comfort. Did Arlene have a special sign on name? I don't recognize Arlene.

Of one of our peach sister's passing. Sounds like she was quite a fighter. An inspiration to us all. I've only been on this board for about 9 months. Did she post in that time? What was her screen name?

In response to your question for a screen name for Arlene, I don't believe she had one, but I believe she posted once or twice on the board under Arlene.

I will be praying for Arlene and will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Ro, in answer to your question as to how I am doing, I am doing good regarding UPSC. I go for my yearly cat scan in March and will see my oncologist for my 6 month checkup in April. It will be 4 years next month that I was first diagnosed with UPSC and I also had a hysterectomy. I have come a long way in these 4 years. I just hope that I can continue to remain with No Evidence of Disease. I just hope that the researchers can find a cure for UPSC soon. A number of women have passed away from our disease and it is very, very sad, however, the chemo treatments have improved over the years so that there are more survivors which is really good. Thank you for asking about me.

Also Ro, I hope that you are doing as well as can be expected. I know you have gone through so much regarding treatments and you are so brave and courageous and I hope you do well in the future and can continue to fight our cancer. I will keep you in my prayers.

Losing warriors to USPC

Although I did not know Arlene, it saddens me to hear about someone with the same diagnosis who has lost her battle. I will remember her in my prayers tonight. I also lost a friend to USPC on December 6th. She and I met when we were both doing chemo, she had been NED for 5 years, then she had a recurrence. She suffered so much and lost her hair again after her second treatment back in 2012 and never got a break from chemo. In addition to fighting cancer, the chemo also caused her to have kidney, heart and neuropathy problems but Joan still managed to maintain her sense of humor. May God welcome both Arlene and Joan into paradise and take care of their families until they are all reunited again.

So sad to learn of our sisters' who lost their fights.
