social security
I like to bring this up every so often for newer people. Depending on your status with kidney cancer, you may be eligible for social security disability. It has been wonderful for me. I don't miss work but I miss the money.

I am applying now
I have an interview to apply at the end of January. I have been reviewing the website of law practice that specializes in SSDI claims, and have done everything the way they suggested. I really don't think I will have any trouble getting approved but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's time to stop working.

I went to our local SS office and asked about disability. I was told that someone would call me 2 days later. They did. Asked some questions, we filled out an application on line. Then I was told that the application needed to be reviewed by some medical personnel and I would hear back in 2 weeks. About a week later SS dumped a few thousand dollars into my bank account. It was that easy. I was very surprised at how understanding and compassionate the people I dealt with were. I am very thankful. It's not a lot of $ but I won't complain.

With regard to Social Security and Kidney Cancer you have to not be able to work in addition to having Kidney Cancer. It is there if you need it, but hopefully you do not need it and can still work.
For old guys like me I get Social Security anyway although I waited 7 years from surgery until I turned 66.
