Positive scan results, ablation next
Scan from Yesterday showed the chestwall tumor on my back that is causing me the rib pain is unchanged and the liver tumor had more significant shrinkage for the third straight scan since y90. It shrunk another 1.4cm for a total of 4cm since y90. I has been 5 months since y90 so I think we are hitting the window of opportunity at the perfect time. Further shrinkage is unlikely after 6 months. So I think we achieved great shrinkage to minimize the ablation and increase the odds of complete local control on both tumors. This will leave me with a couple of tiny areas in the chestwall region that are questionable for metastatic disease. They seem to come and go. My interventional radiologist was very happy with the results. So Monday morning I am off to Baltimore to turn the 2 tumors into iceballs.

That is some great news. I'm glad that you are heading in the right direction. Good luck on Monday turning those nasty things into ice balls. Hope you continue to do well.

They stick a series of probes in and around the tumor and kill it by either heat (Radio frequency ablation or RFA) or by freezing it (Cryoablation) which is what I am doing.

Thanks! That sounds like an aggressive way to treat it, I sure hope it's successful. And not too painful, it sounds like it might be. Kill the cancer!!!

Ablation
As you know, I had an Ablation, but mine was thermal, so I have a charcoal tumour left in my liver. I can feel it now and again, especially after I have been doing something strenuous (shovelling snow right now); other than that, I have had no problems at all. Recovery was a breeze, too much so, as I was want to do a little too much too soon.
Good luck with everything. I have a great feeling about this. Your a star!

Sounds just like the process of freezing a wart. Wish compound W worked on tumors...
good luck and I'm looking forward to reading about the results. My frozen warts shrank and eventually fell off. What happens to the tumors, which are inside your body?

The doctor told me the immune system disposes of the dead cells and in theory they believe it can make the immune system more responsive to other colon cancer cells still active in the body. Cryo is supposed to be less painful and more effective on tumors over 4cm than RFA. They can also visualize and sculp the ice ball around the tumor with either realtime ultra sound or in my case they are using realtime ct scan.

They used real-time ultra sound on me; so I've got lots of little scars all over the place.
It will be interesting to hear from you as your recover. You will do so well.

I have no choice but to recover fast since we are moving the tailor shop and have to be open for business in the new location on 12/22. I will be glad when that is over.

Thanks Mags. The last 10 months has been not just another battle but a war within itself. The first 3 times will simple in comparison. Surgery followed by 12 rounds of chemo then NED for a couple of years. This time I have had to fight surgeons, travel around the country, send out endless scan disc, fight with my insurance and the state health bureau which still isn't resolved, do radiation for the first time and 16 rounds of chemo. I am hoping my oncologist will agree to let me do just ADAPT (Xeloda, Celebrex) maintinance therapy for a while.
