Mets!
Hi forough, Just checking, you have no concerns along those lines do you, I understood everything went well with your op? To be honest, because we all interpret pain differently answers will probably be varied. As for how long would it take to feel the pains who can say specifically. In general terms pain becomes noticeable once the cancer sets in. Pains can be fleeting initially and so ignored and forgotten.
Speaking from my own experiences, my Dad had brain mets, he started with vague headaches. He began getting a little confused and dizzy, the head pain became sharp causing nausea. The symptoms tend to differ in relation to which area of the brain is affected. His bone pain started as a short stinging pain, advancing to a deep pain which caused his whole body to ache to the core.
Lung Mets pain depends on size and area, I have a lot of them. The smaller ones I don't feel the larger ones cause me pain. I first started getting a sore bruised feeling, which I still get along with sharp and more enduring dull pain, along with a feeling of tightness.
For you lets hope that this just remains an inquiry and not something to cause you concern:)

First off, I had about 20 mets. As I remember. I tend to forget details of things that are behind me. It is how I cope. I move forward and do not dwell on that which is behind me or that which I cannot change. ..I have never felt the soft tissue mets in my lymph nodes or lungs or liver. I was actually running quite well with several lung mets. Unknowing about them. Completely painless. Mets in the bones on the other hand though..WOW! Very painful. I remember the first one to hurt. I was standing in a line at a wake. I began to get a pain just to the side of my sternum. It began as a small area which progressed quickly. After an hour it began to feel as if I had a spear passing right through my chest, out my back and I felt like I was suspended by that spear stuck into a wall. Within a few weeks the met in my illiac crest(hip area) wouldn't let me walk around the house without a cane and loaded up on percocets. Fortunately the drugs took care of my pain. The trial drug(prior to recieving the name nivolumab), wiped them out with a little help with radiation. I was back to weight lifting and running in a couple months. So, soft tissue mets did not hurt. Bones definitely did.

They are a sensitive test. They pick up lots of ther stuff and are used for other diseases not just cancer so it could be normal wear and tear or simple arthritis. My husband's bone scan showed his surgery from years ago, degenerative bone loss/

Hi Djinnie
Well, I'm sort of confused. Since One month post my surgery I've had random pains in my abdomen/chest. It isn't sharp, no need for pain killers but there is usually pain somewhere inside me. It wasn't like this ever before.
For example yesterday from noon to midnight I had pain in my rib(back, right). The day before yesterday I had pain around my heart and left shoulder. The other day my left kidney for few minutes and around my removed kidney too.
I did a ultrasound two months ago which showed nothing and a chest Xray 10 days ago. My first CT is next week so these pains makes me upset.Forough

Wishing you well in your ct scans next week. My husband has had unexplained pains since his nephrectomy which can be a worry but nothing has showed up on his ct scans so hoping it will be the same for you. It takes longer to heal from an open nephrectomy maybe some painkillers may be a good idea. Talk to your doctor if really concerned, maybe they can do your ct scan earlier. Thinking of you Melissa

Hi forough, One thing to remember is your body has gone through major trauma. You had an open radical just 3 months ago, your body has lost an organ. Think how much adjusting your body is having to deal with, veins, tissue, nerves, muscle all having to repair and reorganise. The process will take some time. Try not to stress so much, I am sure your scan will allay all these fears. All the best for next week, let us know how it goes:)

I agree with djinnie.......it takes a lot more than a few weeks to get over a radical.......trust me I know....plus the pains you are getting could also be anxiety and stress. Our bodies has their own way of dealing with a trauma.
