How Were You Diagnosed

I'm a 3 1/2 year breast cancer survivor.   Lumpectomy, lymph node surgery, radiation, Tomaxafen and Arimidex.   Both drugs caused big changes in my "female area" and I no longer take them.  Been 3 months.   I've had countless sonograms and 3 D&C's due to thickening in 3 years and polyps removed.   After 15 months with no period and at that time they were far and few between, I recently bled for 8 days.  I just had a sonogram.  Scheduled for biopsy in December.  The report on this sonogram is different than others.   It seems thickening is concentrated in one area ... the fundus of the uterus... and the thickening not everywhere like before when I was on the drugs.  The report also raises the possibility of endometrial hyperplasia, polyps or carcinoma and suggests a biopsy.   My other sonograms never detailed that so I must admit I'm a little nervous.    Just curious how you were diagnosed and if you had a tranvaginal sonogram what did it say.   Thanks.

    transvaginal ultrasound

I had some very mild spotting and minor cramping in May, June 2013. Went to Dr. within 2 weeks of noticing problem and he did transvaginal ultrasound that afternoon. I will quote from findings. "markedly abnormal thickened lobulated hypervascular endometrium, concerning for endometrial neoplasia.". It also says that there is marked heterogeneious lobulated thickening of the endometrial canal maximally measuring approximated 2.9 x 3.2 cm in size at the level of the fundus which is markedly abnormal. I had biopsy within days and the outcome for me was Uterine Pappilary Serious Carcinoma. This was followed by surgery, chemo, radiation and I am now 9 month NED. I was a Stage 3B I believe. I had a bad pelvic lympt node.

Obviously I don't know what this means for you thought my results might help a little. This was not a walk in the park but I'm doing good for now. I have a great new hairdo and an appreciation for the little things in life.

My daughter was just diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and is have double mastectomy Dec. 8th. Not a path we wanted to travel again but we will.

Hope all goes well for you. Many great woman post on here and give great advice. Please keep us posted as to how you doing. Hope this helps a litt.e.

Hey there. The day of my

Hey there. The day of my transvaginal is a day I'll never forget. I got tired of the blood clots during my cycles and there were months where I felt like my period never ended and the clots were so large I felt very anemic. I'd say the symtoms were at its worst the last two years but began as far back as 10 years ago.

The first tech performed the pelvic. She didn't notice anything abnormal. Then the transvaginal began and she asked a senior tech to assist. They spent a long time in there. Finally, they asked the radiologist to perform the transvaginal a second time. Now this got me scared. The radiologist said I had a very thick endometrium (2.5cm min, 4.5 cm max) and one spot that was around 4.5 cm. My uterus was also enlarged. Ovaries looked normal.

She strongly suggested that I go back to my gynecologist for a biopsy. The biopsy indicated endometriod adenocarcinoma, grade 1. They assumed the spot was the cancer. After surgery, the pathologist found a tumor 6.5cm x 4.5 cm, complex hyperplasia with atypia, and cysts on my cervix, tubes, and ovary. It was pretty messy in there but I'm thankful the tumor didn't penetrate beyond the endometrium.

    Transvaginal Ultrasound

I had bleeding over and over throughout the years.  Each time, a cervical polyp was removed, always benign, and the bleeding stopped.  At 51, I hit menopause in June and started bleeding in Sept.  I had a procedure that led to a D&C where a polyp and uterine thickening were found.  The polyp was found to be benign.  At 61, I had bleeding again. I had an ultrasound, then, when that looked odd, the tech called the gynecologist in for a transvaginal ultrasound.  He said I had a "big ole polyp" and scheduled me for a D&C, telling me these polyps are almost always benign.  He said I wouldn't hear from him unless something was wrong. A few days later, I was called and told I had to come in that day.  The biopsy showed cancer.  I not only had the polyp, but I had mets to both ovaries, the omentum, and the small intestine.  The CT scan later said I had a "cake-like formation in the omentum.  I had stage IVb UPSC diagnosed a week after my surgery.  At first, the gyn/onc thought I had ovarian cancer, but a tumor board met at the hospital where I had the surgery, and the consensus was that it was uterine cancer.  It had started in the uterus and spread from there.

I wish you luck with whatever happens in your case.

    D&C discovered mine

I went through the change when my Mom passed away in 1992 and I was 36. By the time I was 38 I had stopped having a cycle at all.  In 2004 I had some spotting and had a D&C and the dr found a few polphs and removed them and no cancer. Went back to no cycles again.  Fast forward till March 2011, when I started bledding very heavy, went to the gyn dr 3 days later and scheduled another D&C for 2 weeks later. Bled continuously those 2 weeks  1 April got the results of the D&C and there were MMMT cancer cells. Gyn Dr set appointment with a Gyn Onc dr for the next Mionday and Friday had complete Hystorectomy with 10 lymph nodes removed and the omentum also.  Path report was less than .03 through the uterine wall and the tumor in the uterus was stage 1a all other organs no cancer.  Had 2 micorscopic cancer cells in 1 node which made it go to stage 3 c 1.  I had 6 rounds of carbo / taxol and no radiation.  It was over 100 degrees in Texas that summer so when I went bald I did not wear a hat or scarves or a wig.  It was too hot! I kept a postitive attitude and was surrounded by lots of supporting family and friends.  It is now three years later and so far so good.  Still no evidence of disease (NED) and working and living life spending time with family and friends.  Good Luck and rember that if you do not like the first dr get a second opinion.  I had heard that taking Tomaxfin did make the uterine wall thicken and could cause problems.  Good Luck with your journey.  Trish
