Scan done, news not good.

in Kidney Cancer #1

I received the results of my bone scan yesterday and the news wasn't good. Along with the hip bone met that I was aware of they also found two ribs and the femur invloved also.  It sounds like this will preclude any surgery to the tumor in my kidney or the removal of the hip met. The doctor I spoke to at UCLA where I am being treated mentioned getting into a trial if I qualify or perhaps starting on Sutent.

Things seem to being going down hill but I am in no way giving up.

    Sorry to hear of your bad

    Sorry to hear of your bad news..  Maybe you can ask your Dr about Cometriq (Cabo).  It is FDA approved but not for RCC.  However some insurance covers it.  Cabo has (for some) worked wonders on bone Mets.  Also are you on a bone agent, either Zometa or Xgeva.?

    It's just the way

    some of us get initiated into this stage of life. First the tumor. Then the mets. Then finding out what works and what doesn't. It sure can be stressfull. Keep living during this process. A good outlook pays dividends. I think we respond better when we are not in a panic.Think of the stories you'll tell in a few years.

    Thanks Fox,first the tumor then the mets seems to be the consensious on the forums that I have visited. I am wondering if my age has something to do wiith why they want to forgo the sugrery. I am 71 years old but in excellent shape. Prior to the pain in my hip I was walking four miles twice a week and two treadmill miles three times a week. I also do a light weight workout three times a week. Perhaps it is time for a second opinion. Presently I am waiting for an appointment with an oncologist at UCLA as the information I have received so far has been from the UCLA surgical team. The talk seems to lean toward being put on a trial if I qualify or perhaps on Sutent. I've been dealing with this curse since 1990 when I lost my left kidney. I had a partial done on my right kidney in 2004 and was told by the surgical team that if I only had the hip met surgery could be done on the kidney and the hip. When the rib and femur mets showed up is when surgery didn't become an option.

    Your attitude, Firedude, is amazing! Sorry for this news.. yes it will be challenging. But it seems you are up for this one, along with support from those on here who are going through it as well.
