Five years out

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Hi All,

I don't post much anymore, but I thought I would let everyone know that my husband just got the five year all clear from Stage IV recurrent scc of the epiglottis and lymph nodes on one side. He had chemo and radiation twice, along with a radical neck dissection (66 lymph nodes removed, 4 positive with extracapsular spread). Quality of life is good. He can still eat almost anything, has been at work full time since a few months after treatment, and remains very active. 

Hang in there everyone. It does get better.  We count our blessings every day. 

Thoughts and and prayers with everyone.

    Thank you for letting us know he hit the five year mark. That is the Gold standard for recovery. I wish you both a long and wory free life.

    That is wonderful news and its shows that there is good life after treatment. I am 12 years passed my first treatment and still working, but I have a lot of problems with side effects of the treatment but remember I was treated twice. It is very importance to keep the mind and body active as soon as treatment stops then focus on doing what you love to do again.

    Thanks everyone for the well wishes and congratulations. My desire in posting was to give hope to all of you. This is the most positive, supportive group there is and I, as a caregiver, could not have made it without you. Everyone facing this battle is in my heart and prayers forever.

    Myka, congrats to you and your hubby!  what a wonderful milestone.  at 5 years the docs use the word "cured" and that's the word we all live to hear.  I hope you both did something really big to celebrate, I did the HAPPY DANCE!!  woooooowhoooooooo!!
