First Post Treatment Scans Today
I have my first post treatment scan today, I'm sure I will only see the technichan but hoping my wonderful radiologist pops her head in while I'm there. I see the chemo oncologist on Monday so I am hoping she will have the results for me, if not I see my colo-rectal surgeon on Wed and am sure by then I should have some answers for sure, I think she will be doing a scope on Wednesday although I am in great fear of the pain, I'm thinking I should medicate prior to my arrival. I don't understand why we can't get a numbing shot prior to an anoscopy. I am needless to say a little on edge, probably best to ge tout and run some errands on my way there so I don't start snapping at everyone in the house. I am off today so it felt nice to get up without the alarm and have a cup of coffee in my pjs while watching the news, but time to get my butt in gear lol, hope you all have a great day.

I want to wish you all the best on the scan and hope you'll get good results with no long wait! I will be thinking of you on Wednesday as well. If it makes you feel any better, my first post-treatment anoscope went very well with no pain, just a little discomfort. I wish the same for you.

Wow! So soon! Doesn't seem so long ago you were trying to arrange treatment around family events.
At least you shouldn't have to wait too long for the results, although it's such an naturally stressful time. I turn to jelly at the build up to scan & results. I am seeing my oncologist on Wednesday. Will be thinking of you

Thank you both for the good wishes, Martha, I hope I follow in your footsteps, I will settle for discomfort instead of pain for sure, Liz, yes it does seem like I was just yesterday planning around all the events going on here, it's hard to believe it has been 3 months since my last day of treatment. I wish you well on Wednesday as well and sending good thoughts your way. I'll let you both know how it goes, I was so wiped out yesterday and I think the contrast and the glucose kind of messed with me yesterday, that and a combonation of nerves not sleeping the night before, I fell asleep as soon as I got back from the scans yesterday (around 4:30) and aside from the bladder relief wake up call, I slept till 9 am this morning, it felt great since I am back at work I have been pretty wiped out,

qv32: the best of medical luck to you. We must be on the same anal cancer timeline.
It doesn't seem possible that 3 months have gone by (minus 1 week). I guess that's because there's been no total change from cancer treatment illness and pain to "all better now". I'm beginning to give up on ever feeling "all better now" again.
For about the last 2 months, if I wait too long between eatings, I get very shaky. I don't know why, but it's darned annoying. The scan department said that if I eat anything, even a few hard candies, it can ruin the scan results. Does anyone else have these shaky episodes? How do you handle the long NPO (nothing by mouth) stints that come with scans and scopings?
Congratulations to qv32 and moi!

Don't give up but I do know what you mean, I want to be "all better" too. I have good days and bad days now which is better than all bad days. I eat about 5 times a day so that I have smaller portions than the traditional 3 squares. I did not have to fast for my scan yesterday, I was just told to eat lightly, same with scopes I 've never had to fast. Maybe it depends on your doctor ? I am a creature of habit so I have an eating schedule I follow during the week which seems to work for me, on the weekends it is different and I can tell when too long has gone by by how cranky I get. What keeps me going are those on the board that have regained some normalcy, it gives me hope. Right now I feel like I work, sleep, eat, sleep again and go back to work. I want to go for a walk, go out to dinner, meet friends for happy hour on a Fri, go shopping but I'm not there yet. Baby steps, is what I keep telling myself, we can't feel this way forever. The body pain and fatigue will eventually go away, for now I just hope for more good days and I hope you have some soon too.

Wow! We are here on this forum at the same time! Good old Internet. I wish I had found this forum while I was still being treated; it would have been a lot less lonely and scary.
I want to go to your scan place! I'm NPO after 3:30A, report to the hospital at 7:30A for a 9A scan so I have time to drink all that icky contrast stuff. Hopefully, it has some calories!
I better remember to bring a Boost or two and maybe hard boiled eggs for afterwards.
.^_^.
Aside from an occasional fast food place, I haven't been to a restaurant since I was diagnosed. My friend keeps asking us to go out with him and his wife, but I would be mortified to go to a fine restaurant only to have to sprint to the bathroom but not make it. I can't wait to have sushi again, either.
I am driving more now, and go shopping to a supermarket or to buy a balance ball today for PT, but each trip totally exhausts me and I must sleep afterwards. It happens even if I'm just a passenger. I got shaky in the car today, but remembered to take a trusty Boost with me.
I feel like I've aged 20 years since March 26th, my "D Day".

I don't know what could be causing your shakiness, but this is something I experience. I think perhaps my blood sugar drops too low sometimes, which brings on these symptoms. The reason I think this might be a possibility is because when I have to go NPO for several hours before a scan, this feeling comes on. Also, when I have had my blood sugar level checked just an hour before a PET scan, the tech will almost always remark about how low my blood sugar is. Sometimes they've even asked me if I feel faint! When I have such episodes at home, if I eat something with a little sugar, it seems to make me feel better.

I used to have low blood sugars periodically when I was in my early 20s at college, going to school full time, working full time, and missing meals. It felt like this shakiness thing, though it hasn't gotten to the point where I get cold, clammy sweating. I haven't been tested for it this go-around as yet. I really should speak to the doctor about it.
If your blood sugar drops too low, it can be a medical emergency, so keep glucose tablets or candies on you at the ready.
