pain from radiation

Good morning ladies.  I am the caregiver and mother of my 30 year old daughter with stage 3b cervical cancer.  She was diagnosed in late February/early March and started treatments immediately.  She completed 1 round of chemo, standard radiation both internal and external in May.  Her tumor is gone but she has enlarged lymph nodes that they are watching.  My question and her problem now is pain.  about 2 weeks ago she started having pain from her left lower back around her side and into her left thigh.  She has seen her gyn onc a couple of times with this problem (huge county hospital that has a gyn ER that she is told to go to because you can't get a quick appt at the clinic)Anyway, the last time they offered her to go to a pain management clinic although they didn't tell her what it might be from.  I've done some reading and it seems that it might be pain from radiation......do any of you have this problem or can any of you relate?  Thanks much.

    Hi cindygodfrey2

You sound like a great and caring mom!  I have not yet had radiation/chemo for my cancer as I am just starting on this journey and just had a hysterectomy but I'm sure some other folks who have had this experience should be on here soon with a reply.  im so sorry to hear about what your daughter is going through.  Please hang in there until someone else replies

    Hi
I have had and at times

    Hi
I have had and at times still have that type if pain. Mine goes or starts from the lower left back and goes down my left leg. I have lots of scarring now and I also have a couple of soft tissue masses. I did have brachytherapy which is now causing me problems due to scarring. This past year when my pains were coming back my new physician asked if I ever had my vitamin D levels checked. I said no. After getting my levels check I found out I was deficient (14). After taking prescribed 50,000 units twice a week for five weeks my pain greatly subsided. Since your daughter has swollen nodes they could be pressing on nerves. Vitamin D reduces inflammation also.

I also feel a vibration sensation in my left leg or left foot too. I hope your daughter can find relief from this pain

    I'm sorry that your daughter

I'm sorry that your daughter is experiencing pain.  I hope she soon finds relief.  Both radiation and chemo can cause damage that effects nerves.  It is possible that your daughter is experiencing pain from that.  My husband and father in law both had issues with sciatic nerve pain and found relief from a chiropractor.  I am glad that the treatment got rid of your daughters tumor.  I hope that the doctors are following up with frequent scans to assess the lymph nodes.  An enlarging lymph nodes can also put pressure on nerves that can result in pain like your describing.  I have not experienced pain from radiation although frequently have creepy crawly senseations in my legs and occasionally restless leg syndrome at night.  I hope you figure out some relief soon.  Hugs.

    thanks

I never thought of a vitamin deficiency nor nerve pain from the lymph nodes swollen.  We did think it could be from radiation shriveling tissue!  Thanks all.  I hope i don't offend anyone by being on here since I am a caregiver and not the one with cancer.  Thanks so much for your help and support.  They are sending her to a pain management clinic.  And it is almost time for her scan again.   I did read quite a bit about pelvic therapy as well.  Laughing

    Goodness no you will not

Goodness no you will not offend us!  None of us could make it through this madness without the love and support of family and friends.  My mother is not computer savy and never could do this for me!  We welcome you with open arms.
