Not Xeloda but Gemzar
Has anyone ever done Gemzar? If yes, would you tell me how the side effects are?
Having a bone scan on Friday. Sending me to see a radiologist about my fracture which really does hurt.
I did have a shot of Xgeva. Oncologist said it has a different chemistry than Zometa, Aredia and etc. My uveitis specialist probably won't mind. I see him on Monday.

Hi Doris
i am from theHi Doris
i am from the uterine board but was on here because my mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I was on Gemzar as I was allergic to Taxol. I did fine on the Gemzar. I did not lose my hair. I felt queasy at times. The main side effect I had would be two days after treatment I would be extremely fatigued. When it hit I would just have to take it easy and go to bed. I don't know if it is different with breast cancer. With taxol I was to get one treatment every 4 weeks but the Gemzatr I did it every two weeks for 6 months along with carboplatin once a month

Thank you Kathy for your encouraging words. They did give me sheet of side effects and I knew fatigue and perhaps nausea was part of it and that it will affect my WBC, RBC and platelets. I hope I can tolerate it.
Good luck to your mother with her treatments for bc.
Best,
Doris

Gemzar was mentioned at one point but then all chemo was shelved with the clots. Hope this is not too hard on you Doris. Thinking about you.
CarolIt was my oncologist recommendation and he told me all the side effects. I picked Doxil and it was a waste of time. I don't know chemo as well as I did hormonal, so I decided to let him pick the chemo this time. I hope I tolerate it.

Doris

Hi,
The drugs are all tough and I do hope I tolerate it. I have looked in to what other people have stated on other boards. Some say it's not bad, other say it's awful. I can only try.
Hugs to you too.

Hi Doris.
With all you have been through over all these years, I have no doubt that your will to conquer this disease will overcome any drug side effects that may occur. I hope the side effects are exactly as Kathy stated and that this new drug is very kind to your body. You can do this. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,
Ginny

Thanks Ginny. I spoke to the oncology nurse this morning who had to accesss a vein. Mine are hard to fine and the bone scan people did not want the dye put through the port. I talked with the nurse and she said the major side effect was fatigue. Hope that is all I will have but I am afraid that it will bring on the iron depletion as it did with Taxol and then I had to do an infusion of iron a few times.
Any way, I have to see the radiologist first to see if I am going to have radiation or I won't need it. I hope I don't as my arm with lymphedema seems to have gotten bigger.
Such fun! I intend on give it the best shot I have.
Hugs

Doris
good luck with Gemzar.
Please tell radiologist that you will be on Gemzar. Some Chemos interferes with radiation and both cannot be done at the same time.
i wish you minimal and manageable side effects hoping it will stop and eliminate cancer cells.

Doris:
Glad to hear the bone scan went fine. Hope all goes well on Friday with your radiologist. I had an ultrasound and doppler done on my kidneys on Friday and am waiting on the results. My left kidney has shrunk and I developed high blood pressure and my PCP was checking to see if I had good blood flow to my kidneys. (long story - I am from uterine board).
Take care and I hope you have a great week.
Kathy
P.S. Did you start Gemzar yet?

I was on Gemzar
once a week for 3 weeks and my oncologist took me off of it. I had terrible nausea and I could not eat anything. I also ran a fever for the 1st couple of days of taking it. Basically I felt like I had the flu.
Hugs and Good Luck to you

Oncologist doesn't want me doing both together.
I hope your on test come's out good. I am sorry about your kidney.
