How can you find members topics. Moderator Please
How can you find members topics or responses from previous posts? It seems like so many have been deleted since the upgrade. Just wanted to check on JBG page and the whole thing is deleted along with Lisa2012. Do the "About Me" pages get deleted if someone passes? This seems sad as people can get a bit of history from them. It just doesen't seem real that their whole page and every response is just wiped out and I'll look for previous posts from Craig and only get a couple that list up and he has so much to share. Why is it that our members posts are not showing up on a search at all. Even my previous posts don't come up when doing a search - only certain ones. Wish this can be fixed.

They were there
I had looked up Lisa2012's profile page the day that we heard about her passing. It was there then. Now poof!
I just now looked up some other members who have passed, who were on my friends list, and they are still there.
Wonder if the new moderator is picking up on the newly passed and deleting their pages.
I was able to still see post from JBG and Lisa2012 by doing a search on their names.
It is a mystery...I would not mind if CSN added something to their profile to indicate their passing, but to delete them is not right.
PS
There appear to be a block of posts from the spring of this year that are missing. I was looking up my own posts and know that I surely didn't go without posting for 3 or 4 months.
The search funcitons here don't operate on the profile name...only if you sign off the same each time.. can you find them...as the search is on the posts.

Hi Guys,
Lisa2012, JBG, &Hi Guys,
Lisa2012, JBG, & Craig's posts are still on the website, but you will be unable to find Lisa2012 or JBG listed as a member because accounts are de-activated when a member passes away.
In response to feedback we have received, we are currently looking into solutions for better search mechanisms for the website in regards to finding posts by particular members.
Marie is correct in her assesment of how the current search engine works. Only if a member 'signs' at the bottom of a post will their content show up. For example, if I searched for Annabelle41415, this post would not come up. If I searched for Kim, it would, as that is how you signed your name.
Marie, we havent' heard of any issues with certain posts missing this year. If you can send us the date range via the contact form, we can see if we can look into that issue for you further.
We really do appreciate the feedback and are constantly looking into ways to approve the site, so please feel free to reach out and let us know if improvements are needed.

I strongly disagree with the deletion of the profiles of members who have passed.
They have been valued friends and family here.
If you want to add a notice to the profile that they have passed so be it, but to delete them is to difficult to deal with.
In fact, I was writing a post in rememberance of those gone, but will not post it now as you will delete any of the profiles still in existance.
This decision on the part of CSN will cause folks to re-think even letting us know about the passing of our friends.
Please reconsider this decision.

There was a time when people would get upset when a deceased posts would come up. They wanted away to block them maybe this is how it was done. I still see some of Lisa42's post.
I personally liked the posts as they were informative.

It is only the profiles which are gone.
The posts remain, except where deleted "en mass" due to system changes.
We also lost many emails during the system changes.

Taking down the profiles of people who have passed is like someone taking down their pictures while you're at the funeral. Csn should consider that it's not just a information feed is a family. I haven't been here long but I've certainly felt loved and supported. I think it's a shame. It's not just a profile. I am also on fb if anyone wants to friend me there send a pm. Fb never deletes an account. Even if you want them to!

leave the profiles upI too strongly disagree with the deletion of the profiles of members who have passed. They are still our friends in our hearts and their stories still have important lessons, now and in the future. Page disappearances also have a disconcerting alzhiemers feeling too. Unless they or their families made a specific request to delete the profile page, their contribution was usually made with the expectation that their story would remain as our memory of them.Unless there is a specific request by the member or their legal representative, I think CSN should leave profiles of those who pass away, posted and unmolested. Removal is more similar to vandals disappearing markers at the cemetery, in addition, sometimes deadly to those left behind too. Ignorance is not bliss.0

This is also the only forum I know of where you can't easily see all of a member's posts. There has to be some way to fix this! It would really add a lot to the usability of the site.

A petition, maybe
I doubt it is the mods who make the decision, so maybe we can get together and petition whoever runs this forum.
I feel it is special when I see our dear passed friend's posts. Their knowledge is just as important now as it was when they were still with us, so I am very glad that their posts are not being deleted.

To know that departed member's profilles are deleted. I was not even aware of this. Of course, I would want JBG's profile & all her posts to remain. It is yet another tiny link to my beautiful daughter, in addition to possibly providing helpful information to someone. I do hope CSN will reconsider this decision.

Hi All,
Thank you for addingHi All,
Thank you for adding to the discussion on how you would like the community here to exist. As stated earlier in this thread, member’s discussion board posts are not removed or deleted automatically upon their passing. This means that content posted to the discussion boards by our members is always available for others to read, regardless of whether they are still active members. When one of our members passes on, their accounts are de-activated. This de-activation is important not only for the security of the user, but it also ensures that no one else can log-in as the deceased member. In the past we have had well-meaning family members log in under old accounts and it was extremely upsetting to the community to see the user name of their deceased friend posting again. Unfortunately, due to system constraints beyond our control, this means that their profiles are no longer visible. At this time, this is not a feature we are able to alter on the website, but perhaps in the future it will be.
Just as a reminder, as long as you sign your posts with your name, you can search for all your posts simply by searching for your name under the ‘Search Content’ function. This can be difficult if you have a common name (e.g. Beth) as the search results will bring up every post with your name in it. If you sign your posts with something more specific (e.g. CSN Simone ) your search results will be much easier to sift through. Please note that we are hoping to eventually have the functionality to search by username as mentioned above, but as of right now, it is not an option.
Thank you again for all your input and we will keep the suggested modifications in mind for any future site developments.

...that no one else can log-in as the deceased member....At this time, this is not a feature we are able to alter on the website
I would suggest the administrators changing the previous password to a random, maximum length password. Between a small time delay per try and/or a maximum number of tries, the account should be safe. Since known expiration only affects ca a dozen or so actual accounts per year (MemD'12, MemD'13, Nov'13), such password changes shouldn't be an overwhelming administrative task.
By objective feature counts, this board's functional utility is unfortunately going retrograde this past year - loss of previous emails, less productive search results, effective policy changes on true names, now loss of profile pages.

Thanks CSN, when I pass just DELETE me as if I never existed, WOW, I can't believe you do that to us. Seems kind of cruel getting rid of our profiles so quick after death, eager beavers.
Tis saddens me deeply.

It seems easy enough to me!!

I don't want my page deleted
I don't want my page deleted either! I learned so much from past posts. I would click on them in error thinking they were new and they gave me the answer to my topics. What's the point of the site if we aren't going to have the info to look back at, remember people, share our feelings about them? That just doesn't make sense.

I just don't agree. I have given my family my password so that if I die, they can come on and let everyone know. If my daughter needs to connect to me by signing on then so be it. That's why she has my password. Really my death is not going to be private. You can look up someone's social security number and know that they died just by googling. The world stopped being private with the internet and we wouldn't be posting on here if we cared. We have cancer, we need answers. I think whoever came up with this clearly never had cancer or lost so many friends in such a short span even if they are people we never got to meet in person.

How about adding automatic signatures?
Most forums have this capacity, so the same thing shows up at the bottom of each post. If this is searchable text, it would automatically make searching for a member easy.

I am saddened
I am saddened that my post about my authorization to "not delete my about me page" has been blocked. There is definitely a way around this if they choose. I will authorize my children and/or husband to contact some key members of this board if I pass so as not to let it out so they don't delete my page. It's too important to leave this information intact and blocking my post doesn't solve the issue it has just has me asking "why" do you have to delete someone after passing. It just doesn't make sense. It is not a computer issue, deleting someone on here has to be manual. On this board you will never know I've passed. My main mission on this board is to help people, if I can't help people in the future with the same symptoms as me then my presence on this board is "mute." I'm sorry that this has happened. I still ask this site to please reconsider as this issue is very dear to most of us.
