Hi all had chemo no 5 with avastin added and it has been awful the side effects that i seem able to cope with when on chemo alone are magnified , neuropathy , constipation , headaches , decided to get some fresh air 5days after treatment and passed out ! Blood tests being done now to see whats up , needless to say I'm not not looking forward to no 6 chemo . I'm hoping side effects settle down and it's doing it's job of strangling my tumors .....here's hoping .

    So sorry

So sorry to hear that the side effects have been really bad.  I don't have any personal experience with avastin but I hope, like you, that number 6 goes much better and that it does its job in kicking your cancer's butt.  Hoping too that you and your doctor get some answers from the blood test.

    Warm hugs,

    Kelly

    Update avastin

Blood tests show infection maybe left over probably from the cellulitis I had a hospital stay for last month , dr has put me on broad spectrum antibiotics to get me fit , am feeling brighter already. Dr still thinks fainting due to avastin wants me to let oncologist know she thinks just changing dose a little can really change how we react to drugs . just glad to be feeling ok and able to get out the house And get some fresh air .

Glad to hear you're doing better. Just wanted to share my experience on Avastin, which I took for 6 months last year. I had practically no side effects--at least none that I can now recall--and my oncologist has said that it's generally well tolerated. Hope you continue to feel better and that Avastin works for you.  Unfortunately, it didn't do much for me--my CA 125 kept rising while I was on it, and ultimately I had to go back to Carboplatin.

    Best wishes. . . .

    Good news

I am so glad that you are feeling better now.  Sending lots of prayers your way that the avastin kicks your cancer's butt to the curb!

    Avastin: Good/Bad/Indifferent?

I am happy to hear that you are feeling a little better since the nasty Avastin side effects..........I'm starting to think that maybe it is a good thing I couldn't get the avastin the Dr. included in my chemo of carboplatin and taxol.  My insurance co-pay was over $1000 per treatment (EVERY Monday!!!) which I don't have.......pharmaceutical foundation only pays for it for a handful of cancers (ovarian cancer NOT BEING on the list) Have been on carbo/taxol for 3 months, petscan shows cancer in remission, will complete the final 3 months of therepy.  In my case, there was NO CHOICE to see if this thereapy would be of benefit to me.......MONEY MONEY MONEY...that's what makes the cancer thereapy world go 'round Yell

Oh dear. Oh. I have had one

Oh dear. Oh. I have had one dose of carbo and pax and will be having Avastin on Monday with the standard regimen - missed one done of Avastin because it was too close to my surgery. I was so sick from carbo/pax for about a week. The past two weeks have been a breeze and now I'm so anxious to go through it again. But hey, whatever it takes. Stay strong, love.
