Recurrence After Mastecomy/Recon DIEP even Possible?

Double Mastectomy couple of years ago. Finished Chemo 1 1/2 years ago. Have lump at top of "cancer breast". But if I don't have any breast tissue, which was replaced with abdomen tissue, could a recurrence even be possible?

    Of course possible

Of  course it is possible to have a recurrance after a mast.  Not every cell is removed in a mast.

See your DR!  Only he/she can DX what is going on (IF anything).  No one here can tell you what might/might not be going on.

    Hi Dragain,

I had the same surgery in 2004.  I did have a recurrence on that same side.  But it could be anything!  Just get it checked so you don't have to worry anymore.  Not every lump is cancer but the sooner you get it checked the more likely they can fix it :)

You'll feel better once you know!

    Unfortunately it is possible.

Unfortunately it is possible. I was diagnosed at stage 2 , with no node involvement,  in 2010. What I thought was stress causing pain in my neck was actually a lymph node that was enlarged due to a recurrence. I had a bilateral mastectomy as part of my original treatment.  After my PET scan last week, although I was very relieved the cancer had not gone to any of my organs, there was a tiny little spot on the other side of my neck that showed cancer,  and that means I now have a metastatic recurrence because it moved. Please have your dr check it out. Im hopeful since I only have a few nodes involved that means I have a chance. Most likely what you are feeling wont be anything bad, after all it is rare, and you have all kinds of scars inside from your surgery, but for your peace of mind get it checked out :)

    Xoxo

The ladies are spot on.  Get

The ladies are spot on.  Get it checked out and see.  Masectomy is just the best thing we can do to keep it at bay but it can return.  Especially on the surgery scars, and skin cancer on the chest too etc.  Could be internal scarring, a cyst, infection, nothing or some thing.  Good luck with results.  Please send us a message.

I'm another case of this type!

8 years out from original DX. Bam!! what was originally non invasive low grade DCIS is back but IDC this time (3 tumors, all in same breast so they're calling it local.)  I was like you and thought it just couldn happen after being so aggressive the first time.
