Hello everyone. I did not post for awhile. My mom is NED for 2.5 years now, as some of you may know she had recurrence 3 times and total of 4 surgeries. Today she noticed something on her bottom gum. She does not currently have any bottom teeth as she had to take them out. She had them removed in may. Anyhow something is hanging off her gum, it looks like a string, approx. Half an inch long, it is white, at the end where it is connected it to the gum it is black.  There is no bump or it is not hard on the gum, u CAN'T feel nothing. We have a dentist appointment tomorrow with her ent. Just scared. Any thoughts?

    Necrosis

I am dealing with a gap in my upper gum.  No pain but I have no feeling on that side of my head.  Doctor was going to give me a prescription but a red flag came up, I am allergic.  Looking into HBOT.  I will let you know what happens, hopefully I will have more information next week.

    It sounds like

It sounds like one of the stiches used when they took the teeth out. If she is not wearing dentures that might be why she has not noticed it before. I had bone chips work there way up to the top of my gums fro a year. Bone chips will hurt like hell if you have dentures. You have to break the skin and get them out. If it is a stich that hasn't sluffed off yet your Dr will remove it. I would not be concerned yet.

    Hi Joann

It’s hard to say at this point but I don’t think it is any kind of necrosis. Best to let the Dentist and ENT look before you think it is another recurring of any C. I am dealing with necrosis and it is nothing like what you have described so for now it is a wait and see and pray.

    thank you guys,

Hondo you are such an inspiration. I always read your posts, you give me lots of hope, all of you do. I will update you later after appoint. at ENT. At this point I think he will have to remove it and send it for biopsy.

    thanks again.

So Glad It was nothing to worry about.

So glad it wasn't anything serious. Don't be surprised if when she has the dentures she might get a sore spot and it will turn or look like a little white speck that hurts. It's a bone chip and it will work itself to the surface where you can get it out. My bottoms did that a lot but nothing from the uppers. Best of luck

    Great news!

I just saw this thread (somehow missed it earlier) and wanted to say that I had "strings" coming out of my neck after surgery.  It looked JUST LIKE pieces of string sticking out of the side of my neck!  My husband took pictures because it was so odd looking.  It turned out to be skin and a couple of stray stitches working their way out.  I had stitches on the inside (the kind that mostly dissolved on their own) and staples on the outside.  These few stragglers didn't dissolve all the way and it freaked me out!

So glad it was a quick and easy fix :)
