Various immunoassay methods for CA 125

Good Morning, Ladies,

I have had three CA-125 immunoassay tests done and each one used a different method to obtain the results.  It is confusing and frustration because I don't think these various methods for assessing the CA-125 can be compared with one another.  My first CA-125 test was done in November, 2013, following my hysterectomy and using the Siemens Advia Centaur chemiluminescent method, which yielded a test result of 22.  The reference range for this method is <35.  My second CA-125 was done in March, 2014, using the Siemens chemiluminescent method with a reference range of <21 and my test result was 8.  Now, this month I had a CA-125 test using the Beckman Coulter chemiluminescent method with a reference range of <35 and my test result was 11.   I know that all of my test results are within normal range, but beyond that I can't compare them.  Have any of you had similiar experiences?  I will be discussing this further with my doctors as I want my test to be done using one method only so that I can compare them.

    I haveno idea what method is used to test my CA 125.  I know different labs can give different Results.   As long as you are getting normal results, I would not be concerned.  All of your results are well below the normal high.  You could have those tests drawn two days in a row and get different results.  Are you lab tests all drawn at the same facility?

    Hi Cathy:

    I just saw in one of my recent CA125 testings that the test had changed and that the new readings are lower than the readings that I had done in 2005 and 2006.   I believe the changes went into effect sometime in 2011.   It can be quite confusing.   Like you, all of my readings have been in the normal range.

    Ro, the last two tests were

    Ro, the last two tests were drawn from the same facility but using different methods.  I am going to discuss this further with my gyn oncologist next Tuesday when I see him.
