So, I'm going in.......
.... To hospital tomorrow for my partial nephrectomy. I will be a fully paid up member of the board and I feel strangely calm. Spent a few hours at the hospital today to discuss op and all I can remember is all the things that could go wrong! All being good I shall be home on the weekend. It's lovely to catch up on everyone's news on here today. Take care all.

All that can go wrong?
After you're asleep you will be in the best of hands. They will take out the bad part of the kidney, staple you up and you will be on the road to recovery!
The whole pre-op crap of waiting and such is worse than the surgery. You won't feel so great for a day or so, but you will come back strong. Do what they tell you, take the meds you need to feel better, walk around as soon as allowed ...blahblahblah
When you get home this weekend. "Plop" into a reclinder and "let the healing begin" 8-)
I send you prayers for successful surgery, send you some good TV shows and food for the hospital stay, and warm sunny days for the weekend to be able to get outside and walk.
Let us know, when you can, how you are doing.
Hugs to you!

It will be a trip. Some don't want to remember. I say, it is a test of your toughness and an experience to never forget. The battle scars are beauty marks. And you will do this with flying colors.

Best wishes
Best wishes for your partial nephrectomy tomorrow.
I'm 2 weeks post partial nephrectomy today and feeling just fine. Tired - as I'm still "recovering" and feeling a bit bruised (like someone punched my in the abdomen and flank). No lingering pain - just the "bruised" feeling.
Yep- they are required to tell you all of the risks, but the chances of something going awry are pretty low - especially for the surgeons that do these all the time. It will be over before you know it.
Keep us posted on your progress!

Karen,
One of the advantages of getting old like me is that you develop Partheimers and forget about that wee bit of pain from the surgery and recovery.

Speedy recovery and all the best!
Thank you for all your words of encouragement and good wishes. I am 2 days post op and apart from a small amount of pain and a bit of nausea I'm not doing to bad. surgeon said that Tumour looked good came out in one piece and was confined to kidney. Just have to wait for pathology. Oh and I'm so glad everyone mentioned the shoulder pain after surgery, ouch but I knew it was the gas. Just had drain taken out so hoping for home tomorrow. Take care.

Glad your recovery is moving along without too much discomfort, Karen. You seem to have a realistic attitude!
I claim this site had helped me tremendously in preparation and follow up.
So don't rush this recovery. Your kidney is probably a bit "upset" and needs to heal well.
Hope you'll have help when you get home.
Let us know how you are doing dear.
Warmly, Jan

Great outcome for you! I am
Great outcome for you! I am guessing your procedure was laparoscopic and/or robotic because of the shoulder pain? I had an open surgery, and I did not have any post-op shoulder pain.
