Have other caregivers experienced a loved ones emotional/mood changes?
Hi Everyone,
So now that my mom is on home hospice due to her advanced metastatic colon cancer, I have noticed that she has no filter in terms of what comes out of her mouth. She keeps repeating the same things she has told us, now screaches "listen to me", bosses us around to do things every minute, and just told her sister to stop copying her home ideas and her other sister that she was fat.
This is so not like my mom. She seems to get agitated easily and I am wondering if this is because she realizes she may not have much time left and she can't control that so she is trying to control us or if she really has no clue that what she is doing or saying is hurtful/tiring to others.
Then she goes back to being her sweet self .
Has anyone else experienced this?
Huggies,
Nellie

My mom too
My mom has Alzheimers and this is the way she acts, too. Her old sweet self once in a while and then rude and even downright nasty other times. She also has periods of extreme paranoia which they say can be due to a UTI, which she has had several times.
I would say in your mom's case, it may be the pain meds, which may need to be adjusted. You should ask hospice if they are helping you or her oncologist for some advice. Good luck

Your Mother
This could be a sign of several things. My husband gets confused a lot and can do or say mean things to those around him. Our hospice nurse had me give him the Ativan that came in his comfort pack. It is for anxiety and calms them do. Check with your hospice nurse. It is a hard time and my husband has been on hospice for almost a year but now his health is starting to really deteriorate.
My oldest sister was diagnosed with a form of deminia that is very progressive and she does and says things very hurtful to her daughter. One minute she is caring on a good conversation and the next she goes off on my niece and accuses her of stealing, not telling the truth, etc.
You have to remember they really don't know what they are doing and just overlook it. I know how hard it can be but I was told this is just the process.
Wishing you and your family peace and comfort

The toxicity of renal failure will cause these things. My answer may be too late for meowycat but it is something that should be considered for anyone seeing this in their loved one.
