in Ovarian Cancer #1

My birth brother was told by his oncologist to call hospice. He has brain cancer. Two tumors. Impacting his ability to walk and talk. Cancer is horrible.

    I am so sorry....did he just find out or has he had cancer for awhile. Prayers for you and your family.....blessings Val

    Sorry to hear your news.   Does your brother want to fight or give up..?  You look young, so I am guessing he is young as well.  Is his health otherwise good..? My point is, if he wants to fight, then find an Oncologist that is willing to fight for and with him.  Depending on where the tumors are, surgery, Cyberknife, and or some drugs may be very helpful.  Oh yes, keep in mind that an Oncologist may not have the experience or knowledge to know if your brother has surgical treatment options.

    Ron,

    he had a surgery in Brooklyn New York. Then radiation. I will see if he wants to explore other options, but I think the size of the two tumors (and growing) is the issue. They even grew during radiation treatment. He is in his 40's.

    Some Cancers do not respond

    Some Cancers do not respond to standard radiation therapy. But there may be treatments that will. I hope he wants to fight and that you find a doctor who will fight with him. Ron

    This is terrible news,what a horrible shock ! Maybe he should get a couple other opinions ,it  couldn't hurt to try.

    I just re-read what you wrote..  There is radiation and then there is RADIATION.  Not sure which he had.  There is a  treatment known as Cyberknife (I am to get it hopefully next week).  This is a super high dose but very pin point radiation procedure.  I think they do it for tumors under 3 CM, not exactly sure.  But may be worth checking.  I have had two consultations on this procedure, and it is pretty simple and easy overall.  Even if they can not get all of those tumors, it may reduce them enough for further treatment..  This is a bit above my knowledge level, but may be worth asking about.

    Here is some info on Cyberknife.. it can be used for many types of tumors.  A whole lot better than surgery..!  I hope it can be used for your brother..

    Sorry about your brother

    I'm sorry to hear about your brother, and I hope there is something that can be done.  I don't know too much about brain cancer, but when we were waiting for one of my mother's appointments we spoke to a couple that had traveled down for the husband's treatment.  He had had surgery to remove as much of the cancer that they could and then he received a vaccine made from his own cancer cells.  The couple said it was working so far.  I don't know what it was called, but I just wanted to let you and your brother know that there were many options; and I am praying for the best for you.
